RWBY Wiki
Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang have fought hard alongside their friends to bring the Relic of Knowledge to Atlas, the northernmost Kingdom in Remnant. However, the futuristic urban-sprawl may hide just as much danger as the Grimm-infested tundra that surrounds it. Enemies and allies will collide as our heroes fight to stop Salem's forces, but banding together is dangerous when you don't know who you can trust.

Volume 7 is the seventh season of RWBY. It premiered on November 2nd, 2019 on the Rooster Teeth website, and ran for 13 episodes with a holiday break on December 28th, 2019.[1] Starting with Volume 7, RWBY stopped being uploaded to YouTube. The volume was preceded by Volume 6 and followed by Volume 8.

Overview[]

Ruby's Group successfully arrive at the kingdom of Atlas with the Relic of Knowledge in tow. They work with General Ironwood towards his goal of building a communications tower on Amity Colosseum to restore global communications and tell the world of Salem and unite Remnant against her. However, the arrival of Arthur Watts and Tyrian Callows in Atlas, the looming threat of Salem, and the growing trust issues between our protagonists make things more complicated.

During the volume, the heroes learn that Penny Polendina was rebuilt following the Fall of Beacon, the Happy Huntresses led by Robyn Hill attempt to help the people of Mantle no matter what and Jacques Schnee attempts to become a member of the Kingdom's council in order to remove the Dust embargo made by Ironwood. All the while, the heroes are trained by the Ace Operatives and become actual Huntsmen. While they work with Ironwood throughout the Volume, his continued extreme actions towards Mantle begin to make them question if they are doing the right thing or not.

Development[]

Main article: RWBY Development

The development for Volume 7 began shortly before the finale of Volume 6 aired.[2] Eddy Rivas and Kiersi Burkhart were added as co-writers, in addition to Miles and Kerry. The first voice acting sessions for key characters happened on April 23rd.[3]

Early in planning stage, the events of Volumes 7 and 8 were going to happen in just one Volume. That didn't last long, as the second half was pushed back into Volume 8 before the first Writers' Room of the outlining stage of Volume 7.[4]

On July 5th, 2019, the official RWBY Twitter account confirmed that Volume 7 will premiere in November.[5] The premiere date was confirmed to be November 2nd, 2019 on July 19th, 2019. [6][7]

A sneak peak of the first episode was played at RTX 2019 on July 5th, 2019. The clip would be made public on October 31st, 2019.[8]

The trailer for the volume was released on October 3rd, 2019.

On December 28th, 2019, in lieu of an episode, Rooster Teeth aired a "FRWBY" Volume 7 Recap bonus special. The video featured the voice of Forest and a clip for Chapter 9.

Development for Volume 7 ended on January 30th, 2020, two days before the finale aired, with Sound Team wrapping up the final episode.[9]

The Ace Operatives and especially Elm Ederne and Harriet Bree were designed to experiment with diverse body types.[10]

Originally, Cinder and Neo were intended to be more present in the Volume, but the crew had to cut back on their appearances, instead making them instrumental to Ironwood's collapse.[11]

The writers originally were not sure about having a montage in the episode "Sparks".[12] Originally, there was no montage in the episode with the team instead sitting around a table talking about what they did.[13] During the montage, Vine asked Jaune if he ever considered extending his Aura. Since Jaune couldn't do it himself yet, this would have led into the introduction of the Disc Grenade as a substitute later in the Volume. However, the introduction of the Disc Grenades had to be moved to Volume 8 instead.[14]

The sub-plot featuring Robyn Hill's efforts to obtain supplies to Mantle was a late addition to the Volume's outline.[15]

Qrow and Robyn being arrested at the very end of the Volume was added late in development so they could effectively be "parked" in the same location as each other for most of Volume 8.[16] Kerry Shawcross admitted that he repressed the memory of changing a storyboard for the final episode of the Volume so Qrow and Robyn could get arrested during the last week of storyboarding for the episode.[17]

Trivia[]

  • The main theme of Volume 7 is both Trust and Fear.
  • Volume 7 was originally greenlit for 14 chapters, but one chapter after "As Above, So Below" had to be cut due to production issues.[18]
