Throughout the production of a series, a lot goes on behind the scenes in regards to planning and design, which often go through multiple stages before resulting in the final version that is seen on screen. Some concepts and ideas can have an effect on the show and characters, and unexpected occurrences during production can also lead to changes and additions to the plans for the show.

Character Basis

Tyrian is based on the Scorpion from the fable The Scorpion and the Frog.[1] This allusion has had the following influences on the character and show:

  • Tyrian is a scorpion Faunus.
  • This is represented through Tyrian's psychotic behavior as the Scorpion in the original fable would attack others simply because it was in its nature, much like how Tyrian openly embraces his own violent nature.
  • F. Pickerel, the Huntsman in charge of Tyrian's incarceration is named after the Pickerel frog and is likely the Frog to Tyrian's Scorpion.
  • Tyrian is notably the only member of Salem's Faction to not be based on a well-known hero that has turned evil, which may represent the fact that he was always an evil person rather than having been tragically misguided.
