    • We generally try to avoid putting OCs too close to the main plot.

      There's nothing INHERENTLY wrong with having a historical character, as long as they're in a position that they won't have a direct impact on canon events.

      For example there's nothing wrong with having a team that was in Beacon at the same time as STRQ; as long as they weren't BFFs.

    • What I was thinking about was characters steering the nations and had great influence on history of Remnant.For example,an alternative Mustafa Kemal Atatürk,a Romulus with true wolf ears or the first Doge of Vale after the war.

    • That definitely falls under the umbrella of 'too important' that we try to avoid; because it's highly probable that they would one day come into direct conflict with canon.

      War heroes, however, would be a different story. Very few of those men and women who distinguish themselves in battle are particularly influential; and yet the world knows them.

      Take Bull Allen for example. An Australian soldier during WW2. He was a stretcher bearer. Under heavy enemy fire, he single handedly carried a dozen wounded US soldiers to safety.

      Franz Stigler, a German pilot, flew underneath a badly damaged B-17, escorting the pilot safely out of German air space and into neutral territory over open waters.

      THAT is the kind of historical character we have no issue with. Not leaders, but heroes.

    • And what about blank zone of canon?Since canon never mentioned these zone,is it possible for us to put our headcanon in(Only for ourselves)because there are no restrictions of canon in this zone? For example,characters related to tradition and ancient history of Vale,detailed post-war history or a family with somekind of political study tradition?

    • Personally, I'd say that OC's backgrounds (and by extension, their stories) should be self-contained. If it directly affects the established canon/lore, then it's probably not a good idea.

      First,the Vale problem.History and culture about this kingdom is poorly established,so I have to make up my version.Geography of Vale resembles Genoa-A merchant city-republic surrounded by ocean and mountains-and Constantinople-whose wealth was delivered mainly by ships docking in the bay of Golden Horn.Determined by geography,Genoa developed naval tradition and a strong presence on naval trade.For City of Vale,position of its port is even same with the bay of Golden Horn and its layout resembles Genoa.Therefore,Vale should have naval tradition like Genoa.Lacking of land makes Vale a resource-poor kingdom,forcing its citizen to explore the ocean.An under construction character of me is literally embodiment of naval tradition of Vale.

      A famous sea captain or merchant could work, but saying that he or she is the definitive version is going way too far.

      We've had conversations on Vale, and I am inclined to believe that the lack of specific details is to make it more relatable, barring that, it's America since RT is made by Americans and mainly marketed towards Americans, or at least that's my impression.

      Also, and observations about large scale geography are kind of moot since it came from a ketchup stain.

      That said, you aren't too restricted by the  kingdom when making a character. They can defy trends, conform to them, or find a balance.

      You're literally extrapolating an entire history from a few geographical details and baseless assumptions.

      At that point you're not even writing a RWBY character anymore.

      3) Characteristics:

      Background: Raised in a village outside the kingdoms, Baedd became locally famous after he and his 2 brothers were attacked when he was 12. His semblance activated as he ran at it, arms raised to protect himself, and managed to hold it off for nearly 30 minutes until help could arrive without a scratch. At 16 he left home for Mistral to enrol in Haven Academy. He was at best an adequate student in all fields except combat, and due to his size and 'rustic' upbringing made few friends. Those he did make found him to be a true and loyal companion. It should be noted that he and his team were grand finalists in the Vytal Festival Combat Tournament while he was at Haven. In his final year at Haven, word got to him that his family was destroyed in a Grimm attack. Although he very rarely lets it show, this has affected him deeply.

      Personality: Outwardly Baedd is easy going, has a love for life that reveals in his eagerness to eat drink and carouse. He can also be loud, crude, and speaks his mind with little tact. Inwardly he has a hatred of the Grimm that is nearly matched by the guilt he feels about not being there when his family needed him.

      Misc Traits: Baedd tends to scratch behind his ear when conversing with someone he doesn't know very well

      Likes: Food, drink, laughter and carousing.

      Dislikes: Grimm, stiff formality

    • Anyway you can think of nerfing it a bit? He's meant to be a powerhouse who can withstand a hell of a lot of strikes and keep going. I mean, he isn't completely unbeatable; Aegis protects mostly against physical damage; elemental attacks are still as effective against a normal aura.

    • We've already seen an invulnerability Semblance by way of Tock; and hers is a 60 second limit.

      Being totally immune to all physical damage (the type of damage 99% of people and grimm dish out) with no restrictions is absolutely absurd.

      I've seen alot of OCs posted on these threads, and most of them are at least moderately heroic characters, which the statistics portion of the template can make reasonably decent. (as not overpowered) But I'll have to ask, what about vilainous OCs?

      If I post an evil OC that would be in a fanfic where Ruby and Co. would have to defeat him/her, what are the limits on their statistics? Especially if he/she is particularly strong (as not to be a joke dealt with in one slice.)? Would you be more lenient on the amount of points?

    • Generally speaking villain types are given a little more leeway in terms of strength; just as a universal thing across all of media. It boils down more to how well written they are, their age/experiencelevel, and their modus operandi.

      Indeed, it's preferred that you do your best to avoid placing characters in direct proximity to canon characters where avoidable. More than anything, writing your own cast of heroic characters gives you more freedom to tell the story you want to tell; can even help to set it apart from the six million other fanfics where people pit canon characters against their own villains.

    • We don't actively have anything against it, but since this is a spot dedicated to writing original characters we do our best to focus on OCs.

      If you want to use the character for that purpose in your own story, go ahead; but the version you present here should focus on your character as a person, not on them wanting to murderize or bang (or whatever) team RWBY.

      Writing them around a canon character pulls the focus away from the character you are writing, basically. And, historically speaking, it makes for a worse character who lacks depth of their own.

    • I mean, I don't see a problem with a villain directly being opposed by RWBY and co. We avoid friendly relationships because people tend to turn those into fix-it fics, or take achievements and character growth from a canon character and give the event to their own instead of making up their own plot points.

      But a villain can be used to push a character to learn something, or sometimes become more set in their ways. A villain plot can be an interesting read, encourage out of the box thinking and teamwork from the heroes (RWBY), and show a character's growth in terms of fighting skill (if it's a semi recurring villain).

      Basically, I don't see a problem with  creating a villain for RWBY to fight and overcome, unless you're going to permanently maim someone for the sake of maiming them, or kill someone off.

      Fitted, dark green cold shoulder top with red trip around neck and shoulders. Left shoulder is filled in with white material, and bears her emblem.  Oversized orange-red cuffs with three brass buttons.

      Red-orange 3/4 skirt open at the front secured with a white belt and attached to white lace-trim petticoat with three brass buttons placed at the hip. worn over Dark green zippered, form-fitting shorts.

      3) Characteristics:

      Background:
      Life is never easy for a single father; doubly so when work demands regular travel between kingdoms. This was the situation actor Arnaldo Bello was left to live after the death of his wife Yuuka Akiyama -a huntress- during a mission. For the first few years of her life Romaine grew up in hotel rooms and on film sets, traveling around Remnant with her father; who did not wish to leave his child to be raised by an endless stream of babysitters and nannies.

      Growing up, Romaine felt a constant emptiness, having never known her mother; with Arnaldo -fearing he would lose their daughter as well- rarely speaking of Yuuka, and remaining tight lipped about her status as a Huntress.

      Everything changed when Romaine started school. With Arnaldo choosing to take a few years off from work, they returned to Mistral; enabling Romaine to enroll and attend classes like other kids. When she was 7, interest in her father’s work lead Romaine to audition for a children’s theater group; it was during auditions that she met her life-long best friend Naeva Tacitus.

      It was through meeting Naeva that Romaine learned the unspoken truth of her own mother’s demise. Naeva’s parents Onyx and Sabrina, themselves Huntsmen who had met Yuuka on a few occasions. No longer able to keep the secret, Romaine’s father became more open about her mother; how they had met, and how she had died. In a symbolic gesture, Yuuka’s weapon Heliotrope was taken out of storage and given a place of honor above the fireplace.

      With Naeva’s family quickly growing close to Romaine’s own, Arnaldo began working once more; often leaving her to stay with the Tacitus family when he had to leave the kingdom for work. As time went by the girls grew closer; going from best friends to practically sisters.

      Five years after their first meeting Naeva became extremely ill; requiring surgery and costing her the ability to speak and sing. No longer able to participate in their theater group Naeva resigned; instead choosing to begin combat training with her parents and adoptive uncle Solace. In a show of unity Romaine too chose to resign; joining Naeva in her training and (with Arnaldo’s reluctant permission) taking Heliotrope as her own.

      With four years of intense training ahead of them Romaine and Naeva began their preparations to enroll at Haven Academy. Though Naeva’s Semblance manifested relatively quickly Romaine’s own failed to appear for the duration of their training. Struggling to keep up because of this weakness she laid out new plans and upgraded Heliotrope with help from her mentors. Replacing the blades and adding the ability to use Dust her mother’s simple buzzsaw staff was transformed and renamed; becoming Helianthus.

      During initiation Romaine and Naeva were separated by circumstance. At a disadvantage with her still undiscovered semblance, Romaine was too slow to be partnered with Naeva. She ultimately had to admit defeat, as despite the upgrades to her weapon she ran across a mob of Grimm too strong for her to face alone. She retreated from initiation, failing all objectives.

      Thoroughly demoralized by her failure at Haven Romaine returned home prepared to give up, where a new option was presented to her. Sabrina offered to take her on as an apprentice; instead of training at Haven, she would spend the next four years continuing private instruction and going on training missions to earn her Huntress license.

      The 40th Vytal Festival occurred during the final year of Romaine’s training. Being unable to compete she asked Sabrina to take her on a more difficult mission as a final test before attempting to earn her license. With the two of them away Onyx travelled alone to Vale to visit Naeva.

      Romaine and Sabrina cut their mission short after learning of The Fall of Beacon and travelled to Vale. Though Naeva’s team had kept her safe Onyx had died in the line of duty during the ensuing chaos; gunned down by rogue Atlesian Knights. After returning to Mistral with the goal of earning their licenses, Naeva parted ways with her team; forming a duo with Romaine and making an oath to never leave the other behind.

      Personality: Romaine is, by nature, extremely positive-minded and extroverted. While she has a tendency to look on the bright side, this is often to an unhealthy degree; ignoring her problems in order to focus on the wellbeing of those around her. Her highly social nature and habit of putting others first has the unfortunate side-effect of making her rather clingy; hanging onto those around her as a way of avoiding her own problems.

      Misc Traits: Speaks with her hands, poor volume control, highly excitable

      Likes: cats, theater, movies, loud music

      Dislikes: reading, silence, smooth jazz

      4) Trivia

      Notable Relationships:

      Arnaldo Bello-Akiyama: Romaine’s father. Though he is away from home often due to his work, the two are quite close; greatly valuing the time they are able to spend together.

      Naeva Tacitus: Romaine’s best friend since childhood. Though they were separated for a time while Naeva was enrolled at Haven they have formed a permanent duo since acquiring their licenses.

      Sabrina Tacitus: Having been involved in Romaine’s life since she was a child, Naeva’s mother  has in many ways become a substitute for her own. Mentored Romaine after she failed initiation; taking her on as an apprentice.

      Onyx Tacitus: Much like his wife Sabrina, Onyx had taken on a parental role in Romaine’s life; being viewed very much as a secondary father figure. Because Sabrina was with her on a training mission during The Fall, Romaine blames herself for his death.

      Solace Noctis: Onyx’s best friend. Though not as influential as Sabrina and Onyx, Solace has played an active role in Romaine’s combat training; she views him as an adoptive uncle.

      Skills: Sewing, acting

      Allusion: Started off alluding to the magical girl genre as a whole but that went out the window pretty fast.

      Notes: Romaine’s tattoo is Onyx’s symbol; Sabrina, Naeva, and Solace possess matching ones in the same position.

      There's nothing... OFFENSIVELY bad about the character; name is edgy but not that edgy, weapon is interesting but not unique, and Semblance is... well, it's just kind of there; unremarkable and pretty typical really.

      The biggest issue is... the character is basically a blank slate with no real defining characteristics to speak of. All Huntsmen who are not part of the Atlesian Military are huntsmen for hire; by design and training they are highly skilled freelancers.

      Even the backstory is, at best, kind of vaguely brooding; but not to a degree that is particularly good, bad, or even memorable. Same with personality.

      I'm not meaning to come off as harsh, it's just... bland; an issue compounded by how short the personality and backstory is.

    • well i was just introduced to these threads, and i heard this was the most reccomended when it comes to team/charactername discussion. So I have this fictional team called ZRCN (pronounced zircon) and the only team members I came up with is the leader, Zircon Verdigris (his first name refers to the gemstone while his surname refers to a shade of cyan, i'll come up with a bio if I have the time.)

      So does anyone have any other ideas for character names? For the R part I suggested either Russet (a shade of brown) or Rebutia (refering to the orange flower, rebutia heliosa. Someone suggested the name Russet Heliosa, adding that the character's look focuses on brown with some orange stuff included.)

    • Starting point; do you have a theme or allusions in mind? I generally find it easier to name characters once I have some sense of what I want them to be. That way you can draw inspiration for both their color scheme and name simultaneously.

      A theme is a sort of overall allusion for the team. For example Team JNPR are based on historical and mythological characters who ended up crossdressing for one reason or another during their story; with the members of the team being the gender their inspiration disguised themself as.

      Their individual allusions are Joan of Arc (Jaune), Thor (Nora), Hua Mulan (Ren), and Achilles (Pyrrha).

      I've not done much with that myself; decided to use it to tie her into an existing branch of my character web. Allowed me to do so without needing to reconfigure Naeva's team.

      My reason for not giving her a known Semblance is twofold. The first is that I just... could not think of one.

      The second is that I decided to turn said indecision to my advantage from a writing perspective. I still haven't decided on one; but I did come up with a clever little reason WHY she can't use it.

      Her Semblance if and when it is discovered will be one that is very much self-focused.

      Since she is both selfless (she legitimately worries more about other people than herself) and neglects her own issues because of it; she has thus far been able to trigger the thing.

      Essentially she is severely out of sync with her own Semblance so it can't activate; even accidentally.

      Background: Growing up in the rough parts of Mantle, Draven always found as if people were looking down on him. He grew up in a family of four-his parents and his twin sister, Bianca. His parents owned a music shop and barely got by. Despite this, they did everything they could to ensure that their kids would be successful. Draven grew up learning all types of music and instruments. He also helped in the shop until he and his sister were old enough to begin their huntsman training. Their parents dedicated their life savings, and this sacrifice paid off. Because of the way the elite in Mantle treated them, Draven and Bianca chose to apply to Beacon Academy.

      They were accepted because of there exceptional skills despite all of their hardships. Because of the twins’ unbreakable bond, they were placed on a team together: Team BLND (blonde). Bianca displayed exceptional leadership qualities, so she was pronounced leader of Team BLND. However, leading the team was a more cooperative effort between the twins.

      After graduating and receiving their huntsman licenses, the team traveled together, hunting Grimm for no expense. After a year of this, the team began to face some financial troubles. Two members of Team BLND chose to leave and begin working as personal bodyguards, leaving only the twins. They stayed together for some time until one day they were lodging in a small town that was the victim of a Grimm attack that night. They repelled the attack, but many innocent lives were lost in the process. After this, Bianca was convinced that she had to do more to protect Remnant, so she left Draven and ventured to Atlas to join the military.

      After enduring the loss of his team and the departure of his sister, Draven found it hard to trust anyone.     • This isn't really related to one particular OC but regarding a periculer aspect - speed. Basically i posted a weapon on RWBY OC which you can find here: https://www.reddit.com/r/RWBYOC/comments/ep3t8t/rwby_oc_weapon_reithe/  One critque is the fact that with the backpack and the weapon being decently heavy he would more of a slow/heavy based fighter then a fast flippy based fighter. One thing noted is that when it comes to fighting Grimm - there's a risk that a slower more heavy fighter might not be that great at dealing against Grimm due to them coming at any angle . While i do disagree with this commentator that  a slower more heavy fighter might not be as a good of a Huntsman as a fast speester - i wanted to know your opinion on this in terms of OCs that focus on strength/heavy weaponary over speed/light weaponary

    • Well first, putting it on you back distributes the weight and mass. There are ways to maximize payload without killing any and all speed.

      Second, with the enhanced strength and speed, normal restrictions don't quite apply as strongly. See Nora, Ruby, and others who still move crazy fast for how much ordinance they're hauling and usually swinging. And besides, there are a few slow moving heavy hitters in canon like Coco, Yatsu, Sage, and probably more I'm forgetting.

      So variety is good, and the heaviest ranged weapons can drop large threats well outside of minimum range, even though minimum range is barely a thing in Remnant. Again, see Ruby and Nora. Even with heavy melee weapons, the tradeoff for being slower is that you can quickly drop a large, deadly enemy, and do so consistently.

      True, though a Ram would likely be closer range then ever a hammer and a scythe since you would be holding it with two hands but i still think it could be useful as a good weapon. As for the back thing - i didn't know that, it kinda elevates my fear because i thought the backpack part would be too big and heavy for the oc to carry around without problems (this is indeed for an OC down the line).

      A while ago someone wanted a minigun log, (that was a confusing bit) but logs and modern battering rames for urban doors aren't forms I'd recommend straight up copying the forms of, like at all.

      If you wanted to have some real fun, with a battering ram, you could have an assault rifle caliber minigun with Simon door breaching rockets on each muzzle. Make one end blunt for doors, and one end pointy to punch through Grimm, unless you're solely planning on city fighting to take out criminal hideouts.

I got some basic ideas from various people on Discord, and wrote a character study/short scene with her to get a feel for how she thinks and her fighting style, and have posted it on Fanfiction.net if anyone is interested in reading it? It's called Like Cats and Dogs. I'm really pleased with how she turned out.

      Oh, you've misunderstood, and I'm responsible for a mistake of design. The backpack idea is for ammo, since backpacks can hold a delightful length of ammo belt links. I never meant for the weapon to be broken in two like this, and I specifically said only one of the business ends needs to be pointy.

      Also, since you made the log, I feel confident saying you might need to branch out more if this isn't just an evolution of that design, but instead a spinoff.

      Ah my bad. I still think you can have the backpack function as a carrier of the weapon since let's it would be pretty difficult to carry a fairly sized log around with you while running to an location as well as use it as an ammo storage. Though question i have,do you think it would be better to have minigun ammo hang out likethis or have all in the weapon inside of the minigun like say Coco's Handbag

    • Well now it's overly contentrated on the back. The idea of the ammo backpack is to free up weight from your hands to carry more ammo for a heavy weapon. Not this parody. Besides, you can make it narrower instead uf using that many .50 cal barrels. Shorter too.

      Maybe thise will help with the size perspective. And they make a smaller one in 5.56.

    • The modern battering ram is also much smaller than what you've made. so you could still combine them, with the front moving away or opening to hose targets down with rifle rounds And if you want more of the mass to be static, just "downgrade" to 5.56 which means you can pack more rounds in the same space, you can have a higher rate of fire, and the gun is smaller.

      Fine i will try and make a new version but i am kinda busy at the moment so i make no promises. Plus we should probalby take this to weapon foundry or PM since the question was more on regarding speed when it comes to OC charcters.Maybe i should just stick to large sword or hammers..

      Background: 

      Hydra is the only child of Sturns and Martina Larkspur. They lived in a small wooden house in Vale. In his youth, Hydra was always playing with his friends in dangerous places, even though his mother told him not to. One day, he and his friends went to play tag out in the woods. Three hours since they started playing, Hydra was still having a hard time catching his friends and ended up hitting one of them with a stone as soon as they started slapping his head every time he took a break. As the other kids went to Hydra's parents to explain what happened, Hydra started feeling guilty for what he did and received a painful punishment from his father. He was told many times before that "violence is a sinful act unless it's for the greater good". Hydra remembered what his father told him and was tormented by the experience.

      Ever since that day, Hydra was not allowed to go outside his house until he learns to behave. His strict parents changed his ways as he began following and doing their orders. After spending years doing house chores and learning basic swordsmanship skills, Hydra became a well-disciplined, kind, loyal and loving boy. When he turned fifteen, his father enrolled him in Signal Academy so he can improve his skills to wield the two artifacts, the "Royal Storm" and the "Karyoku's Yasha", and protect it with his life.

      After graduating, he was then enrolled in Beacon Academy and became the leader of team HCKR with fellow students Caroline Reaper, Kobe Vulpex, and Rocky Roadster. Hydra didn't expect to be the leader of the group because he cannot be one. During combat fights, he always hesitates to order his teammates to do something, which ruined their focus completely and lead the whole team to failure. Even after getting encouragement from his team, he still hesitates because he's no good at it and does not have the strength to order anyone around.

      During the fall of Beacon, Hydra and his team were fighting against a group of griffons. Carolina suggested Hydra that they should all retreat to recover and come up with a plan together. Hydra started to hesitate again while a griffon grimm was approaching behind him. Unfortunately, his teammate, Kobe, sacrificed his life only to save his defenseless leader. After the battle, Hydra apologized for his mistake, Carolina slapped him and left shortly after, and Rocky walked away with a disappointed look on his face. After the team broke up, Hydra went home, feeling depressed, while shedding tears.

      Before he reached his destination, Hydra witnessed his house from a distance, burning. He quickly rushed back to his house to find out why it was burning. Making his way to the center of the house, Hydra attempted to save his mother, but was unable to reach her in time and was forced to watch as she is killed right in front of his eyes by a mysterious armored samurai holding "Karyoku's Yasha", one of the two family heirlooms Hydra's clan is tasked to protect. The two engaged in combat but Hydra was quickly defeated and slowly collapsed. Hours later, he woke up and witnessed his father, fully injured but still had the strength to talk. Before his death, he reminded Hydra that violence was a sinful act, but only if it's for the greater good and was then told to recover the other artifact, even if it means killing the person who stole it. After hours of thinking, Hydra had no other choice but to accept the sinful and dangerous task. However, he might seek help throughout his journey or someone to keep him company and help him with his mission.

      Personality: 

      In his youth, Hydra was a reckless, short-tempered and irresponsible child, showing no respect to his parents and his friends. Because of his reckless nature, one of his friends was injured. But after receiving punishment from his parents and following their orders, Hydra became a well-disciplined, kind, loyal and loving boy. He acts and treats anyone he meets in a very good manner. He loves helping out anyone who is in desperate need of help.

      Background: The son of an all-Faunus team that graduated Atlas Academy, Dell always envisioned himself as a Huntsman. Growing up with these role models, it's easy to see where he picked up his desire to be a Huntsman from. Dell was trained by all 4 members of the team as soon as he was allowed, alongside the other 2 members' daughter Estelle, as well as at Prometheus Combat School (a primary Hunter Academy located in Atlas), he soon became a tournament-level fighter, winning his first competitive title, the Atlas Regional Championship, at age 13 and successfully defending it 4 years in a row, earning the nickname of the Black Swordsman at his last contest. The ARC is also where he first met Lucy Almas, with whom he developed a mutual respect, due to them always meeting in the finals of the 13 to 16-year-old section, though he would eventually win the match every time. At age 16, Dell, alongside Estelle and Team ARTK (arctic) [their parents' team], went on a mission in Vacuo to help clear out a large number of Grimm, the teens going with them for practical experience. However, only 5 out of 6 members of the group survived, as Dell's father had been felled in combat with countless Grimm, and Dell lost his left arm trying to save him. This led to Team ARTK officially disbanding, as they lost a member, and served as a brutal reminder to the teens of the dangers of being a Hunter; however, it did not dissuade them from pursuing the career. Soon, though after a lengthy discussion with the teens and Dell obtaining a prosthetic arm suitable for combat, they all moved to Vale so they could attend Beacon Academy, hailed as the best Hunter Academy at the time. About 2 weeks after the 'Vacuo Incident', Dell was scouted by Amara North, the leader of the Moonlighters' Vale branch, due to his reputation as a skilled fighter and strategist. After 6 months with the Moonlighters, Dell and Amara disrupted a Schnee Dust Company train to gather supplies. Returning home after completing the mission, Dell discovered his Beacon acceptance letter, that had been posted while he was out. Dell officially joined the Academy a month later, though he still occasionally takes missions for the Moonlighters and stays in contact with them.

      Personality: Dell is one of the most serious and militaristic students at Beacon Academy due to his Atlesian upbringing as well as experiencing the risks of the career firsthand (no pun intended), though this sometimes gives way to a more joking side, assigning nicknames to his close friends. His drive to be the best Huntsman he can be, as well as the memory of his father, won't let him give anything less than 100% in anything relating to the subject, be it in combat or academics. This leads to a fairly competitive nature and a desire to be top of the class. Dell has developed a level of mutual respect between himself and Pyrrha Nikos, due to their reputations as prominent tournament fighters. Also, Dell has a 'no man left behind' mindset, likely stemming from his inability to prevent his father's demise. Having said that, Dell's most defining feature is his protective nature towards those he cares about, leading to his defensive Semblance. Dell's friendship is not easily gained, but, once you have it, he will go out of his way to make time for you, even across continents, as he did for Estelle while she was attending Oscuro Combat School in Vacuo, sharing his Faunus base's pack mentality. He also has a strong sense of morality due to being raised as a Faunus in Atlas, leading to a fierce hatred of discrimination and bullying, particularly against his fellow Faunus, even going so far as to call out Cardin Winchester, and by extension Team CRDL, for his/their behaviour in front of the entire Beacon cafeteria.

These objects do not appear to have any mass but are sturdy enough to withstand a hail of bullets from an Atlesian Paladin 290 at fairly close range. This is quite a versatile Semblance, allowing Dell to create a variety of objects with a thought, and they can be dismissed just as easily. If they are not dismissed, the object will dissipate in 15 seconds if Dell is not in direct contact with it, if it is not destroyed first. Additionally, any damage the constructs take is halved when compared to Dell's Aura. If the constructs are actively dismissed, Dell regains any remaining Aura used to create them; time-outs regenerate half of the remaining Aura, while outside-force destructions do not regenerate any Aura. Dell can also reshape his constructs if he is in direct contact with them, at the same Aura cost as if it was originally that shape. Created objects are the same colour as Dell's Aura unless Dust is used in making it.

I don’t believe for a second that Atlas would have separate combat schools considering a majority of their armed forces, instructors included, would be centralized around Atlas the academy. They obviously don’t seem to fund any of their Huntsmen or Huntresses on Mantle.

      The prosthetic itself is more of a weapon than a gadget. I’d rather it be a regular prosthetic and nothing fancy, like Ironwood’s. This guy doesn’t need 16 knives.

      Personal nitpick, but the weapon name needs work. Too simple and I believe taken.

Why not have it also function as a directional sound wave emitter or have it be used to create incredible feedback that causes enemies to hear it to cover their ears from the pain? Something more is all I’m saying and to reinforce it. Why not make it a konabo instead of a staff? More heft and damage.

      It's not a microphone on a stick it's a collapsible staff.

    • Everything personality and design wise looks fine to me. A little basic or generic in some places like personality or fighting style, but that can be worked on.

      As for fighting style, I’m surprised. She’s tech savvy. Why would she not be good in close quarters? It’s like a thief or rogue class. Could be experts at trickster or deceptive combat style. As for the weapon, why have the spear at all. Yes, even in close quarters combat, managing distance is a necessity, but in the hands of a master combatant, a spear is deadly in a wide variety of ranges. I just don’t think she would be terrible at close quarters, just not as good as a specialist in CQC.

      Personal opinion, cut down the length of the spear shaft a bit. The weight distribution looks very off. Need something on the blunt end to balance the weight. Something heavier. The tip should be heavier in a spear, but needs something to balance the overall weight. It can be small, so long as you distribute the weight.

    • Well, it's actually supposed to be a glaive lol But to her being unskilled in CQC, this is kinda her at the start. Like V.1-5 era, but she gets better around V. 6-7. And a big thing that contributes to her inability to deal with CQC is the fact that she is terrified to die young. I'm pretty sure I mentioned this in her bio, but she didn't want to be a Huntress herself, it was all her parents' idea.

    • @ACWeapons: Technically, the combat school is an extension of Atlas Academy, just under a different name to avoid any further confusion between the Kingdom, main Academy and primary combat school.

      The prosthetic is actually fairly simple; its only special feature is storing the knives. Considering he doesn't use them that much, 16 knives is a bit excessive now that I think about it; 8 would be more reasonable. Dell designed the arm with a view to store his knives inside it (he's from Atlas and has close contact with a mechanic so not too unreasonable).

      Fancy names aren't really Dell's style, so the simplicity fits his personality. As regards the name being taken, if you're referring to the Fanon Wiki, that's me. Follow the link and read the disclaimer (top right on PC [outlined in light blue]; top in italics on mobile).

      @Ace642: Yeah, we had this discussion on the last Semblance creation thread (v32). It's technically the same character; I just changed the name to fit the CNR.

    • @Black Wolf: Still not buying the combat school thing. I would have had it been like 50 years ago. Is it really necessary for backstory because it seems to be easy enough to change? I saw the Atlas map of Mantle. Not many places to make that a feasible explanation. Why not have that person study somewhere and then come back to Atlas?

      If you’re set on the knives, I have some questions. How long are they and what type? Depending on the answer, I have recommendations. If they are small throwing knives, 8 is fine but I think you can make do with 6. If they’re more a medium length, then you can have 3 or 4. If it’s like a combat knife or dagger, you need 1 or 2. One as a back up and one as a primary sub weapon. You can recall them anyways so you don’t need that many. I don’t find the function on a prosthetic necessary except maybe for the recall feature. As for storage, a holster with sheathes will do fine. Look at Ren. He has his father’s knife. It’s not really used except for important moments. Your character’s main weapons kind of make the knives unnecessary except for certain situations.

      Not asking for complex or long names for weapons. Just something like an adverb or adjective into it.

    • @AC: My character went to combat school in Atlas (kingdom), where he's originally from, then moved to Vale so he could attend Beacon.

      The knives are 150mm long×45mm wide×5mm thick (approx. 5.9in long×1.8in wide×0.2in thick), and are intended as throwing knives used more against people in stealth-oriented situations or as a sneak attack. The arm-sheath function was designed for quick-drawing the knives in an emergency as opposed to the slower action of reaching for an external sheath (what cost him his original arm in the first place). It's a case of learning from experience and adapting to avoid the same mistake.

      Any suggestions on modifying the weapon names? (I want to keep the Onyx & Obsidian parts as adjectives to match his colour scheme)

      @Ace: Not quite what I had in mind; it's more akin to what Blake's 'shadows' are made of, only more durable due to the more concentrated Aura used to make the objects as they're usually smaller.

    • Some people have insane draw and throw speed. So if I’m mistaken, you don’t really throw knives with your least dominant hand unless it becomes an issue. It’s not meant to draw and throw from the same prosthetic, is it? That kind of explanation just sounds like unfortunate circumstances to losing the arm rather than slow skills.

      For your weapons, why not Onyx Claw and Obsidian Shard considering the theme of your character?

    • The knives aren't so much thrown as launched point-first as if from a railgun, only using Gravity Dust instead of magnetism as propulsion. (Changed from original after thinking about how drawing and throwing the knives from the same prosthetic would work- it would be difficult, if not impossible)

      Those names are good (definitely keeping Obsidian Shard), but the knives already have 'Claw' in the name (i.e. 'Wolf's Claws'). Maybe 'Onyx Repulser' as a further reference to Kirito (as in 'Dark Repulser')?

    • I had a thought, for a Khopesh/Tennis Racket OC. Would it be possible to incorprate a sport into the backstory? Like for example, the user comes from a Group in Vacuo and for entertaining/to keep everyone positive to prevent Grimm Attacks they have their own Sport that was invented by the group many years ago - it involves the use of balls and rackets,bats,etc.

      Also in the tribe it is highly encouraged that your the racket or bat that you play the game with is also your Huntsman weapon as the tribe has the opinion that the user's weapons should be used for all kinda of suitations - not just combat and that entertaining the pepole and giving them positiive memories is just as important as fighting to project them explaining why the user uses a racket. This is just an idea i had and nowhere near completly fleshedout - just an idea i had.

    • Just have them play tennis or badminton. Or you could used Racquetball or the ancient Mesoamerican ball games as inspiration. You can change the rules a little bit, but base it off a pre-existing sport for ease of actually writing the sport out instead of trying to make one from scratch.

      That's a fair point but at the same time i am not sure if the RWBY Verse even has traditional sport as we know it. It's definetly possible but at the same time..i am not sure.

A lot of different cultures came up with variations on the same sports in our world after all; there's literally nothing saying Remnant wouldn't have a version of tennis that looks exactly like our game, just has different terminology (so a different scoring system to the 30-love style we have, etc) and maybe a few rule changes.

      Yeah that's a fair point, thanks for the advice. Basically i came up with the sports idea as a why of explaining why someone on Renment would use a Dual Khopesh who can turn into a Racket as a weapon.

At one point Memphis decided he wanted to become a huntsman and his father did what he could to enroll him in a primary combat school. Unfortunately he could not afford the tuition and in the end he went to a benefactor who agreed to pay Memphis’ tuition if he cut his whiskers off. Memphis’ father was disgusted by this idea and decided his sons;s dream could somehow be accomplished in a way that did not mutilate his son or strip him of his dignity. This caused a major fight with Memphis and his father. After that over the next few months, Memphis began acting out, causing trouble, and even engaging in crime. One day, Memphis robbed the wrong person. He broke into the pharmacy run by Pietro Polendina who, instead of pressing charges came to an agreement with Memphis, he wouldn’t call the police so long as he came in after to school to help him out in the shop, as he knew he was a good kid who was dealt a bad deck of cards. Working with Pietro had a good influence on Memphis as he became a mentor for Memphis to look up to and he even wrote Memphis a letter of recommendation to Haven Academy in Mistral, as well as teaching him about engineering and helped him develop his own weapon. Before leaving for Mistral, Memphis also made up with his dad who was very proud to see his son go off to become a huntsman, knowing his son would fight to make the world a better place.

      Personality: Memphis is a very passionate and emotional individual, however he tries to be cool and “slick” despite being a lot more sensitive that he is willing to admit. Memphis is rather outspoken and opinionated and is more than happy to argue his position. Overall Memphis is a personable and charming guy if you’re on his good side and don’t get him angry as he actually has an explosive temper and can sometimes be seen as emotionally unstable. He also cannot admi when he is wrong and will only admit so when somebody gets hurt. Thankfully, he is beginning to listen to others and has shown to be a capable leader due to now listening.

    • You can name your person whatever you like, as butterflies come in a variety of colours. However, if you're wanting a name that means butterfly, Sho is not a good fit. Sho and Cho are two completely different consonents in this case. You'd be better off finding a butterfly genus or common name that starts with S and using that instead, linking it back to the butterfly.

      I already have a general idea for this character, but right now I'm wondering if I want to change her theme to butterflies. So yeah, I'd prefer a name with an S that means butterfly, but if I can't find any I'll just stick with my original plan.

      Background: Roger was born to a single mother in Vacuo. He never knew his father as his parents split up before he was born. Roger’s father was actually a powerful huntsman who, after finding out Roger’s mother was pregnant was given a choice. He could either remain with his partner, but quit being a huntsman, or choose his career and never contact her or their son as long as they lived. Roger decided to choose his career as he just couldn’t give up being a huntsman to stay in Vacuo. He also believed that he would make the world a better place for Roger and his mother  by continuing his huntsman work. His father actually sends Roger and his mother money every month, but after he left, Roger’s mother refused to accept any help from the man who chose his career over his family to raise her son. Secretly she keeps the money hidden away for Roger’s future. She told Roger he was a drunk who died in a bar fight. Roger’s mother was a blacksmith in the Vacuo city of Coquina crafting weapons for the students at Oscuro Academy (the primary combat school in Vacuo). Growing up, Roger had a few health complications and was actually a rather sickly child and was actually epileptic and prone to seizures, and had asthma. Unfortunately, Vacuo doesn’t have the best hospitals or medical treatment on remnant and for years she worked to get the academy to help her secure atlesian medicine. Roger always knew he wanted to be more than a sick child and made it his life's mission to become strong one day. If not for him, then all the other sick children in Vacuo who got left behind. Over time Roger did get his seizures under control, but he still takes medication for them, and also carries his asthma inhaler just in case. Having his mother be a blacksmith for a combat school, and though not knowing it, Roger always felt a strong connection to the idea of being a huntsman and on his thirteenth birthday asked his mother to craft a weapon for him. She agreed, not knowing what her sickly son would do with a weapon, aside from make him happy. When it came time to enroll in primary combat academies, Roger did not have the medical clearance to go to combat school due to his seizures, and asthma. His mother also disapproved of him becoming a huntsman as it is what tore their family apart and as a result, did not get the chance to enroll at a primary combat school on schedule. Instead he became passionate about art, specifically ceramics and pottery, as well as the piano. Roger’s mother wanted him to become an artist or do something that wasn’t physically straining. However, as Roger’s condition got better he wanted to learn how to fight more and more. Eventually at the age of fifteen his mother begrudgingly agreed to help him gain entry into Oscuro academy, two years behind schedule, and due to his medical condition on a highly regulated and conditional basis. Being two years older than his classmates, as well as less experienced made him even more determined to be the best student and huntsman he could be as he spent all of his spare time training and learning new fighting techniques, regardless of his mother’s disapproval. Eventually, when Roger was eighteen, he graduated from Oscuro, in three years instead of the traditional four, due in part to his hard work and tenacity. He was supposed to go to Shade back home in Vacuo so his mother would keep an eye on him (hoping he would quit his huntsman training) but behind her back he applied to Haven Academy across the world in Mistral after receiving two letters of recommendation from a professor, and the headmaster. When Roger told his mother, she was not happy at first but eventually came around to the idea of him training at Haven and began to mend their relationship.

      Personality: Roger’s key personality trait is his determination and ambition. Roger wants to succeed so hard due to how for most of his life he has been trying to prove to everyone he could do things they said he couldn’t do. Roger has a rather large chip on his shoulder as he believes that people still see him as the sickly little boy from Vacuo. Thus making him the most proactive and “go-getter” type of person on his team. Unfortunately, due to his deep desire to prove he is strong Roger seldom accepts help from other people believing not being independent is a sign of weakness, partially stemming from the “Survival of the fittest” mentality common throughout Vacuo. He is however, always willing to help others, if nothing but to show off and prove his strength. Despite the chip on his shoulder, Roger can often be fun to have around and likes to be the life of the party when he cuts loose and is a completely different person drunk. He isn’t nearly as type “A” as his teammate Memphis, but is still the most organized member of the group. He also tries to remain relatively optimistic.

In addition to this Memphis is a spectacular piano player and has played the piano for twelve years. Memphis has also dabbled in other artistic mediums, specifically Roger is particularly skilled with charcoal and he often paints with Memphis. In addition to this, Roger is the most focused and organized member of his team having planned out their schedules, keeping everyone on task and making sure everyone does their coursework to the best of their ability (with him sometimes checking and changing answers) Roger is also a horror movie buff as well as very knowledgeable of Grimm having encyclopedic knowledge of different kinds of grimm (Mostly because I think Grimm are often in Horror movies on Remnant)

      Background: 

      Carolina Reaper and her parents, Chilia Reaper and Dragon Reaper, lived in a small house near the waters in Vale. As a child, Carolina dreamed of becoming a huntress like her parents to make a name for herself while living a peaceful life among friends and loved ones. After unlocking her semblance, her parents trained her to the fullest and enrolled her in Signal Academy. But before her enrollment, her parents insisted that she must stick to her new surname "Redlock" and must never mention her real surname for unknown reasons. Despite the confusion, she agreed without any delay.

      A year after she graduated at Signal, Carolina went out on a man hunting spree while honing her skills before enrolling at Beacon Academy. She hoped to be the leader of her team due to her incredible thinking skills, but instead, Hydra Larkspur was the one chosen. Carolina didn't expect anyone other than herself to have an incredible intellect and believed Hydra wasn't a gifted one, but after learning about Hydra's lack of leadership and superiority towards others, she changed her mind about him and suggested that they should all support and comfort Hydra whenever he's having trouble commanding his teammates.

      During the fall of Beacon, Carolina and her team were struggling against a group of griffons. She suggested that they should all retreat to recover and come up with a plan together. However, Hydra started to hesitate again while a griffon Grimm was approaching behind him, forcing his teammate, Kobe Vulpex, to push Hydra out of the way before getting swallowed by the Grimm. After the battle, Hydra apologized for his mistake, Carolina slapped him and left the team after telling him how disappointed she was.

      Carolina decided to move to Vacuo to study and graduate at Shade Academy after she abandoned her team. Her new life there was much better than what she had because of her new friends and the new team that she is currently leading. One day, she and her team went out to get some food. Carolina and her team were attacked by a couple of bandits and one of them separated Carolina from her teammates. After hours of fighting, Carolina's aura got weaker, giving the bandit a chance to steal some of their belongings and retreat with his comrades on a vehicle. Carolina chased after them even though her aura's depleting. This allowed the bandit with the sword to cut both of her arms when she jumped over their vehicle.

      After the incident, Carolina felt depression and sadness in her heart after losing the two most important things that she always relies on. Thankfully, she had enough money to forge her weapons with her new mechanical arms, but even with these upgrades, Carolina was still not feeling well and was all out of money and became poor. Fortunately, her team was willing to help her recover and took her to one of her teammate's house. Despite all of this, Carolina moved on with her life and focused on achieving her goals.

      Personality: 

      Carolina Reaper is a very determined, level-headed, happy-go-lucky girl with a fickle attitude. She always changes her mind when she fails or understands that things don't go as planned. She sometimes changes her thoughts on someone or something she loves or hates and pretends to act cute and innocent towards the people that liked her to toy with their emotions. However, she shows a lot of respect to people, especially if it's a guy that she likes, and always keeps her head in the game, regardless of how bad the situation has gotten.

      She's a very energetic girl, always loves to do hardworking activities when she feels like it. In her spare time, she goes on a man hunting spree, which is one of her goals in life. She sometimes plays with a Rubik's cube or does some workouts when nothing peaks her interests.

      Like Hydra, Carolina is also a clever person, loves to fight smart and thinking ahead of others. When things aren't doing well, she steps up and suggests something clever to her teammates if their plan starts failing. She's also the one who suggests what she and her teammates should do when they're hanging out.

      In her younger days, Carolina used to be a happy-go-lucky girl, but after she lost her arms, she became serious and less energetic, focusing more on her goals in life than having fun.
