Originally, we had turned off anon editing due to persistent vandalism, much of which was not exclusive to our wiki. This, of course, meant that everyone needed to create an account to contribute to the wiki, whether via edits, comments, or forum posts.
We decided to turn anon editing back on because we recognize that requiring an account had set up a hurdle that not everyone in the fandom is willing to jump, especially when they only wish to make a single edit or ask one question. We want the wiki to be open for everyone to contribute, so long as their edit or post is within the rules. To be honest, turning anon editing back on has been long overdue.

Things that were locked to admins are still admin-only, especially the wiki background images. I don't think the background images will ever be unlocked, after they were abused so... horrifically.
Basically, we have sort of a switch, per se, for anon editing. When we switch it off, it stops allowing anons to do anything. So we didn't have to mess around with anything that was previously locked to certain tiers, such as admin.
one of the images was replaced with porn, I don't recall what relevance it might have had and no-one should bring up exactly what was in the image but needless to say it was not appropriate, they only replaced certain ones so it wasn't immediately removable and lasted way too long.
no both were separate users that incited various incidents that were particularly nasty with a few users banned for a certain period, was a few rough months, Soarel just outright left and called RT Staff stupid elsewhere later, Kirito as mentioned mellowed and I think also left sometime later after being a more reasonable member for awhile, but as I recall Surana left during one of the nastier incidents with one or both of those users.
I've run into Soarel's Youtube channel. I don't think he'll ever stop believing that Cinder and Salem are the heroes, that Salem is just a copy of what Cinder was supposed to have been, etc. and I don't think he'll ever stop pushing his theories as fact. But that doesn't matter because he's not really causing anyone any trouble, aside from maybe a headache from arguing with him. The issue we had with him here was that he was trying to edit pages with his theories about how Salem simply wants to stop the evil Ozpin from abusing and manipulating humanity. I know there was another wiki that had the same problem with him.
My thoughts exactly, it's not surprising he's still around, just nice that he left here specifically and isn't pushing his ideas in a place meant for factual articles, he'd also derail any thread with so much as a mention of something counter to his head-canons, which was also a real problem as we'd have these theory threads trying to use canon as presented abtout other things and he'd come in like a bull in a china shop like "uh-uh, can't happen because x was y", "y wasn't in the show, x happened..." and then shit would derail into flames or just get no-where interesting as the rest of us became "fact-check-police" for everything in his posts just to parse if anything he said was relevant.
agreed, we should have an admin/mod locked page/thread that keeps track of Anon incidents where the mod posts the page edited/time and the page has a counting function that tabulates entries(total, last 30 days, and last 7 days), if the tally hits say 30 in a week it locks-out anon editing for 7 days, if it hits 90 in a month it locks out for a month, and every time it locks out for a month it creates a new thread for when the lockout ends
Can you lock anon "Category" edits? seems like a rather pointless thing to allow anon's to edit in the first place, if they make a new page it should include all the data in it to know where it goes, if they need to add something they can let us know with a comment.
it just seems like most anon's shouldn't be expected to know what categories we actually use in the first place, so we might as well not give them tools to edit them.
