I could see her having a proper depressive episode for a few chapters at some point, but not turning alcoholism. She's way strongly against that, especially after seeing the withdrawal effect on Qrow.
No. Especially not played for comedy.
I'm not saying "all of it" played for comedy, just the milk mustache, so they could have say, her head down away from camera, give an emotional speech to another character where we only see the bottom of her mouth and the other characters reactions to her words, then after it sets in and the other character says something to break her out of the funk she turns and the other character reacts to the mustache and we see it break the depressing moment with one of levity before Ruby gets hopefull again as we know for certain she will because the writers do not want her "simple soul" to change.
I see rooster teeth going for a long-term depression for ruby. Like i said, depends on how they play it out. What if she is in the state and NONE of her friends are around or all are missing? It will be a long time. This will change the character. Growing up involves change. Not changing a main character could make them boring.
If they change her, she won't be "simple", I'm not saying this depression would be short, only that the binge would be, she isn't likely to mull over this long while being literally sick and out of it;
A. because that would be as boring as it was in V5 with Qrow's montage
B. because without the MC moving the plot forward there is an overwhelming majority of better characters to focus on than long, drawn out "ugghhh so depressed/drunk" characters doing nothing.
Well my idea does hinge on her being alone, or rather believing she's alone, so she doesn't have to hide what she's been burying. While she's with the group, she feels the need to suppress all of the pain.
