So, pretty much now that we know Ren's Semblance, I feel the next character with any significance we should know is Neptune. I would do Jaune, but his Semblance is a topic that's been discussed a million times over, and according to the CRWBY "we've seen it already," as of Volume 1.

So where does this leave Neptune? Any thoughts and opinions, possibly headcanon backstories?

    Feel free to post here.

    • Well Neptune is the God responsible for earthquakes, and who created horses so he could get laid (long story that also involves the creation of a half dozen other quadrapeds), so his allusion could point to either of those.

I frankly don't understand why so many people think he has to be water-based just because of his name. The boy is terrified of and refuses to be near knee-deep water. His hydrophobia is so extreme that honestly anything that didn't involve removing water wouldn't make sense if it has to be attatched to an element.

    • I like to think it's a short ranged teleportation one based on a joke Monty and Co made in the commentaries about how Neptune got to be standing on that narrow ledge outside RWBYs dorm window with no apparent way to get up there. =p

Other than the tree of course, but then why did he climb to the ledge instead of staying in the tree until they let him in. It'd be safer.

    • I would say "Divide the sea", but wrong allusion.

Well, Sun Wukong has a Clone Semblance, which boosts his allusion to Sun Wukong.

So it does make some sense for his partner Neptune to have some Semblance that boosts his allusion to Neptune.

PS: Yes, I'm too lazy to just edit the previous post instead of making another one.

      He's not terribly bright.

lol, now I almost want to see next weeks episode(better fitting for Chibi) featuring Neptune randomly appearing and hastily explaining that he created the Nuckavee grimm to sleep with chicks, get told By Ren that it killed his parents, to which he responds:

"Wow dude... I'm sorry... can you forgive me?"

to which Ren Responds by glancing at Nora and Saying:

"I Suppose" then giving him a thumbs up and mouthing "mission accomplished"

Afterwords the two share a "Bro hug" while Jaune looks betrayed and the others are just standing there dumbfounded.

    • Neptune isn't dumb he just freaked out over his fear of water. He tries too hard to be cool to the point he sometimes does nonsensical things. This was still the guy that beat Weiss, Yang and Ruby at a strategy game.

Water semblance? I could see him having it and still being scared of water. He could have had a bad experience and as we saw with Qrow not every one likes or can control their semblance.

I have recently been wondering if whatever it is happens to be the reason he got on that ledge. Didn't he say that he had his ways when asked?

He lives by "Rule of Cool"... I think he thought it cooler to stand there... easier to pose.  Forethought is definitely not a strength he possesses in spades.

He did indeed. Which is another reason I like short range teleport.

      1) That's something I hadn't considered, but thanks for bringing that up...I remember the story now about that too.

      2) Neither do I, unless his Semblance did involve manipulating water and he lost control of it or something, hence his fear of losing control, and by association, fear of water. He does very much seem like the kind of person that cares about being in control of his appearances, at the very least. Might've been part of the reason why Weiss is like "this maniacal ship known as 'Titanic' shall be leaving port tonight and setting sail, whether they like it or not."

I detailed most of this in a Pre-V4 Theory with my friends about his entire backstory, actually, which only exists on a Google Doc as of this post.

It could be something like that...maybe he almost made himself drown?

    • Hydromancy gone wrong?

    • That was the thought. I could post the theory if you guys wanted [Warning: it'd be semi-outdated.]

    • Now here is a topic that I have thought of for a long time although mine is still just a theory and was mostly mentioned. I'm just gonna give my take on it.

I believe his powers are connected to water and I also believe that his fear of water stems because of this.

Now what I'm gonna add is just Sembelance itself and how each one varies. For example Yang's stems from her anger and she can't activate it till she is angry. For Ruby to turn into petals she has to be running first. So that gives way to the theory that perhaps Neptunes sembelance is activated that way.

Now if he had a powerful sembelance that ultimately lead to pain for himself or others then that could explain his fear of it. Plus if it is only activated by water then that could explain his fear of the liquid. It could be that he's simply afraid of losing control again.

This is one theory however I have a few others for my fav bean.

I'm pretty sure Ruby's done her dash from a standstill and I'm less certain that Yang has activated her Semblance without getting mad.

    • Well, with the second one it's pretty near impossible to not see one or the other apart from one another. When she's mad, her eyes go red, but that is what her Semblance cue is too...so in that case, the two are tied together.

With Ruby, I agree with Ark, she's moved from standstill several times in V's 3 & 4, and with the whole running aspect, she's activated it when she was jumping too, not running. Running is just an easier way to transition into it, arguably.

As for your theory, since we don't have a lot of possibilities, it's certainly possible. Though the whole idea of this thread is to actually try and speculate what it is...though that's a good way of explaining his fear.

    • i have a theory. once in his life, neptune "bended" water normally, but the way he used it wasnt cool. so, one time, a bunch of chicks saw he using his semblance and laughed at him, saying he was a derps and all that. so that explaims why he is afraid of water(afraid of his own powers) and why he likes to be cool at all times, so no one laughs at him again.

      maybe....

    • No.

Also we have a policy against commenting on things that are more than 3 months old. I thought we had a script preventing this now, so this is actually kinda weird.

    • We do have a script, so I'm not sure what's happening either. I'll close it anyway.
