Summary[]

The story begins with Ozpin narrating about a lone Hunter protecting a village in the swamps of Mistral from Grimm by himself and being seen as the Village's hero. Later that evening, he has dinner with his four children about if they can eventually take over his role with the four children making the argument that their own Semblances are the best for the job.

The next day however, the four children wait for their father to return and learn that he was killed during his hunt. After the siblings begin to wonder about what to do next, they get into an argument about it and eventually decide to go their separate ways.

The eldest daughter decided to follow in her father's footsteps and continued to protect the village from Grimm. Due to more and more attack however, people start to move away from the village. The eldest son decided to help people search for a new settlement in order to be safe from the Grimm, but is forced to fight off the Grimm attacking them by himself. The youngest daughter decided to study the Grimm in order to learn more about them, but never engaged in direct combat and had no idea how to best combat them. The youngest brother attempted to adventure into the wilderness alone, but ran into Grimm and used his Semblance in an attempt to hide from them.

Just as the youngest brother thought he was going to be killed, the younger sister saved him by using her Semblance to calm him down. They then find the elder sister about to be attacked by Grimm and save her by fighting them back. They then reunite with the elder brother who helps them by using his Semblance to link their Auras together and all four children fight off the Grimm.

That night, they sit by a campfire and apologize to each other about leaving each other and thinking they could do their father's job alone after realizing that he died because he protected the village by himself. During the conversation, the elder sister realized that was why her Semblance led her back to her family since she needed them the most. The four children realize that if they work together, they could accomplish anything with Ozpin narrating about how the four children spent the rest of their lives working together to help people.

Transcript[]

Ozpin: (narrating) Long ago, there lived a hunter in the swamps of Mistral. This was no ordinary hunter though. He was a hunter of Grimm.

The Hunter confronts a group of Beowolves and slays them down one by one. The villagers then approach the Hunter and praise him for protecting the village. The Hunter receives a basket filled with loaves of bread.

The scene cuts to the Hunter's home at night.

The Oldest Daughter: Father. Why are you the only one who hunts them?

The Hunter places the plates containing food for his children.

The Hunter: My Semblance tells me when Grimm are near. I have a duty to protect them. One day, all of you will use your Semblances to help others too.

The Hunter passes the basket of bread to the eldest child.

The Oldest Daughter: Well, that'll be easy because mine's the best. It leads me whatever I need most. Sounds pretty useful to me.

The Oldest Son: Useful but not strong. I can link Auras with other people. It's easily the strongest.

The Youngest Daughter: Hunting Grimm isn't just about strength. I can use my Semblance to calm people down. You don't need to be strong if you don't attract Grimm in the first place.

The Youngest Son: (stands up from his seat) Well, I don't have to worry about that. I can hide from Grimm in plain sight.

His older brother snatches the bread from him while he isn't looking and takes a bite. The youngest son notices.

The Oldest Son: Well, you can keep hiding with your eyes closed while the rest of us do the work.

The children except the youngest child laugh.

The Hunter: You know, there is danger in relying too much on one's own abilities. Especially when danger surrounds us on all sides.

The Hunter stands up from his seat and walks away.

The Hunter: I would have hoped your mother taught you that.

The Hunter gives his bread to his youngest son before he leaves the dining room. The children look down, discouraged.

The scene cuts to the oldest daughter and son at the dining room. The eldest daughter sweeps the floor with the broom.

The Oldest Daughter: Has anyone seen Father today?

The Oldest Son: He said he was going deeper into the swamp, finding out why the Grimm have been shown up more.

The knock on the door is heard. A villager opens the door, holding two of the Hunter's weapons; a rifle and the machete.

Villager: I-I... I have some bad news, kids...

The scene cuts to the Hunter's children at the table, despondent over the death of their father.

Youngest Son: What... What are we going to do?

Oldest Daughter: We must stay and protect our home. Like Father.

Oldest Son: It's not safe here or anywhere else. We have to find others and protect them too.

Youngest Daughter: Father was trying to learn more about the Grimm. We should learn more too, so we can be better prepared to face them.

Youngest Son: What does it matter? Father and Mother risked their lives for the village. Look what happened to them! (off-screen) We need to fight back!

Oldest Daughter: (off-screen) Stop being foolish.

Youngest Son: (off-screen) You're not listening to me!

Oldest Son: (off-screen) We have to go and help others!

Youngest Daughter: (off-screen) We have to think this through!

Ozpin: (narrating) As they had countless times before, they argued long into the the night. In the end...

Oldest Daughter: (off-screen) We've got to do what Father wants us to do.

Ozpin: (narrating) They went on their separate ways.

The scene cuts to the oldest daughter defending the village in her late father's place.

Ozpin: (narrating) The oldest daughter took up her father's mantle as protector of the village.

The oldest daughter attacks the Grimm one by one while protecting the village by herself.

Ozpin: (narrating) As the tax increased, the people sought refuge elsewhere.

Elsewhere, the oldest son traverses the swamp.

Ozpin: (narrating) The oldest son searched for more villagers.

The oldest son arrives at the destroyed village.

Ozpin: (narrating) But, the Grimm had already gotten to them.

The oldest son keeps traversing until he notices the burning village with the villagers being surrounded by the Beowolves.

Ozpin: (narrating) When he finally found others to protect, not even his Semblance was enough to overcome the Grimm.

The oldest son uses his Semblance to protect the villagers from the Beowolves.

The next scene cuts to the youngest daughter observing the Grimm from the trees.

Ozpin: (narrating) The youngest daughter set off to learn more about the Grimm. But without confronting them, there was stil much she didn't know.

As the youngest daughter watches the Beowolves go, she holds and stares at her late father's dagger in her hand.

Cuts to the youngest son exploring in the swamp.

Ozpin: (narrating) And lastly, the youngest son set off to find adventure, but having never left home, soon became lost and afraid.

The youngest son becomes afraid and lost as he runs through the swampy forest, but ends up encountering three Beowolves. He quickly runs away with the Beowolves chasing after him. The youngest son quickly uses his Semblance to hide himself from the Beowolves. As the youngest son hides from the Grimm, he becomes calm when his Aura turns purple. He stands up and watches the Beowolves leave.

Youngest Daughter: (off-screen) How's your adventure going?

The youngest brother finds his sister and reunites with her as he happily embraces her. They both heard the Grimm growling from afar.

Youngest Daughter: They found new prey.

Youngest Son: Then we should help.

The scene cuts to the oldest daughter guiding the refugees.

Oldest Daughter: Don't worry. We'll find a new home soon.

The villagers gasp in fear as they are confronted by the Beowolves.

Oldest Daughter: Please, we have to stay calm.

The Beowolves approach the group. The oldest daughter prepares to fight them, but two Beowolves are slain by the youngest daughter and son. The oldest daughter is surprised to see her youngest siblings. They nod and prepare to confront more Grimm. They altogether slayed the Grimm. However, the three siblings confront more Beowolves.

Oldest Daughter: There's too many!

The oldest daughter feels her Aura and a hand on her shoulder.

Oldest Son: (off-screen) Miss me?

The oldest daughter finds her oldest brother with the other villagers. The oldest son joins his siblings on facing against the Grimm while protecting the villagers and refugees.

Oldest Daughter: (off-screen) I'm sorry for being stubborn. There were too many Grimm for me to fight alone. Without you all, I lost directions.

The scene cuts to the Hunter's children at the campfire.

Oldest Daughter: No wonder my Semblance led me right back to my family. My true home.

Oldest Son: I'm sorry for leaving too. I'm strong with all of you at my side. If we stick together, we can overcome anything.

Youngest Daughter: (sighs) I was wrong. Sometimes the best way to learn is to act.

Youngest Son: I was the biggest fool of all. I was so selfish, I lost sight of what was most important.

Oldest Daughter: Father died because he was fighting Grimm alone. I think we're better off as a team.

Ozpin: (narrating) For the rest of their days, the Hunter's children defended the new village they built together and welcomed anyone seeking refuge from the Grimm. And often over the years, the siblings ventured out into the world to offer help wherever they could, inspiring others with their bravery, heart, wisdom, and humility. May we learn that working together, we can surely accomplish more than each of us can alone.
