- For the Remnant member of Justice League, see Clark Kent.
Clark Kent (born Kal-El[1]), also known as Superman, is a character who first appeared in Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes and Huntsmen, Part One. He is based on his DC Comics counterpart Superman.
Appearance[]
As a teenager, Superman's appearance is based off on his Remnant counterpart from RWBY x Justice League with some minor changes. He is a young man with short wavy black hair and blue eyes.
As an adult, Superman still retains his original outfit but has been more buffed than the comic counterparts of him in various variants, or as DC Comics likes to call them Elseworlds.
Personality[]
Powers and Abilities[]
Semblance[]
Like the rest of the Justice League, Superman's natural Kryptonian powers were translated into a Semblance while on Remnant. Superman's Semblance is Solar Power (unofficial). He retains his powers such as flight, super strength, increased endurance, and heat vision, however he must be in direct sunlight to do so. Being cast in shadow will immediately remove any special abilities he is currently tapping into, as shown when he was unable to fly while in the shade or promptly collapsing whilst fighting the Wyvern when its large body blocked the sun.
Weapon[]
Unlike the comics, Superman wields a hammer he found in the Beacon Weapons Locker Room that is either inspired by the Solar Hammer or Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor, the God of Thunder in Norse Mythology.
History[]
Origins[]
Kal-El was born on the distant world of Krypton to gifted scientist Jor-El and his lover, Lara Lor-Van, in the midst of his home planet’s destruction. Desperate to preserve their race, Jor-El sent Kal-El away from Krypton to planet Earth, after which Krypton was completely destroyed.
Upon his space capsule’s arrival, crash landing in the township of Smallville, Kansas, an infantile Kal-El was discovered by farmer Jonathan Kent and his wife, Martha Kent, who took the baby in as their own. Kal-El’s name was legally changed to Clark Joseph Kent in order to make his identity more in keeping with that of other humans, in spite of his alien identity.
Clark Kent spent his childhood and much of his youth in Smallville, raised on the Kent farm, unaware of his true origins. As he grew older, he discovered that he had special abilities, such as heat vision, super breath, super strength, and bulletproof skin which could absorb radiation from Earth’s sun. Eventually, his adoptive parents discovered his abilities and encouraged Clark to use his unique abilities for the greater good.
To protect his identity, Clark donned a colorful costume, with the symbol of the house of El to inspire hope and set out to fight crime. Clark moved to the city of Metropolis, where Clark also kept tabs on the happenings of Metropolis to discover crime to fight as Superman, by applying for a job at the Daily Planet as a journalist.
From there, he developed a reputation as a respected superhero and protector of Metropolis, and amassed some allies such as his lover, Lois Lane, assistant photographer Jimmy Olsen, and his boss, editor-in-chief Perry White.
Although Clark’s powers gave him an advantage, he did make quite a few enemies in the process, such as Brainiac, Zod, and most notably, his archnemesis, Lex Luthor.
Clark would later go on to help found the Justice League, with other heroes such as Batman and Wonder Woman, along with others.
Arrival on Remnant[]
He first arrives in Remnant with no memories of how he got there or become a teenager. He meets Ruby and Yang in the middle of the Grimm fight.
Trivia[]
Color Naming Rule[]
- Not being a native of Remnant, his name is not held to the rule though coincidentally some of the names he has do follow it:
- His Earthling legal name "Clark" comes from the the Latin word clericus which means "scribe," "secretary," "scholar," "cleric." The first two brings to mind white parchment and black ink which also aligns with his day job as a news reporter of the Daily Planet.
- His Kryptonian birth name "Kal-El" translates to "Star-child" with "star" bringing to mind white and yellow.
Miscellaneous[]
- His use of a hammer may be a nod to him having the Solar Hammer and Cosmic Anvil in All-Star Superman.
- Clark's outfit containing a jacket, red belt and protruding S-Shield is a nod to the outfit of his genetic clone/"son", Conner Kent/Kon-El aka Superboy.
