"Ruby vs. Oscar and Ozpin" is a spar that occurred in "Lighting the Fire", where Ruby Rose trains with Oscar Pine in hand-to-hand combat in Mistral, with Ozpin eventually taking over.
Preceding Events[]
Following Ozpin's arrival to Mistral and reunion with Team RNJR and Qrow Branwen as Oscar, Ozpin decides to personally train his four former students, such as Ruby in hand-to-hand combat and Jaune Arc in unlocking his Semblance, while Qrow finds the Huntsmen sent on missions by Leonardo Lionheart.
The Fight[]
In the middle of their spar, Ruby throws a punch that Oscar blocks followed by a kick that Oscar ducks under. Oscar then retaliates with an uppercut that Ruby dodges and follows up with two swings that Ruby blocks with her arms. Ruby winds up and throws a punch, only for Oscar to duck, resulting in her briefly losing her balance. Ruby quickly recovers by delivering a sweep kick that Oscar leaps out of before sliding behind him, who punches Ruby a few feet backwards. While the two exchange blows, Jaune, Nora Valkyrie and Lie Ren look on, and Jaune comments on Oscar's adaptability. Oscar eventually lands a punch on Ruby's face, angering her enough to retaliate with a punch that knocks him away.
Noticing the Oscar has forgot to engage his Aura again, Ozpin takes control of Oscar's body and turns the tables against Ruby, forcing her to block and dodge several quick jabs before hitting her in her blind spot, knocking her back several feet. Ozpin then leaps to Ruby and jumps into the air to kick her in the face. Getting up, Ruby leaps into the air and attempts to deliver a left cross, only for Ozpin to duck and headbutt her.
Aftermath[]
After Ozpin advises Ruby to improve her stance, he allows Oscar to take control, causing the boy to collapse from exhaustion. Ren tells Oscar that he will eventually generate his own Aura in time before focusing on his Semblance. Ren and Nora then explains the mechanics of a Semblance and how it serves as part of the warrior's identity. Jaune laments of having yet to unlock his Semblance despite his training, but Ozpin reassures him that Team RNJR's journey is far from over before resuming training.
