Chapter 7: The Prince of the Seven Seas[]
Blake, Yang and Clark begin their nighttime investigation at Vale Harbor for clues about the missing students, with the harbor having the highest number of disappearances. Blake and Yang's friendly banter and Clark's explanation of his Semblance not working well at night is cut off by a stranger ambushing them from the sea: a shark Faunus armed with a trident and riding a seahorse-driven chariot, who accuses the trio of kidnapping Faunus from the sea and believes they are the ones controlling the Grimm.
The Faunus gains a quick advantage over the trio by ordering his seahorses to drown Yang instead of attacking her. Blake dives into the water to rescue her, only to come under attack by multiple marine animals with strange star-shaped markings on their bodies. Yang, Blake, Clark, and the shark Faunus are forced to fend off the swarm. Once the animals retreat, Blake finally demands the stranger hear them out - with Yang pointing out that he should listen to Blake if she yells - and removes her bow, revealing her cat ears. However, the truth of her Faunus identity doesn't calm the stranger down, as he accuses Blake of working with the humans who have pillaged the seas and exiled the Faunus to the fringes of the continents. After he calls Blake "princess" after asking her if she's thrilled about the waterfront real estate in Menagerie, Blake retorts "I'm not your princess, 'Aquaman'." Unfazed, the stranger smugly replies that she could be, since he's the heir to a kingdom.
Before he can continue, Clark steps between the two Faunus and recognizes the shark Faunus as someone named Arthur. Clark asks if Arthur recognizes him as well, which he does. He had encountered Clark before at a seaside Dust mine, where Clark was being held captive on a contract. Unfortunately, Arthur wasn't able to rescue Clark and he was forced to flee, even as Clark's Semblance was left inert under the moonlight and he was unable to escape himself. Even though Clark isn't a Faunus, Arthur shows contempt and sorrow for his condition, being used like a machine to harvest Dust. Clark informs Arthur about the abductions and how they are looking for the one responsible, and Arthur finally realizes that they are all after the same thing.
The group boards his chariot and head off to sea, where Clark notices how Arthur had knew how Yang's Semblance worked. Arthur explains that it's because of his own Semblance: an ability to talk to fish, which Blake and Yang find confusing. Clark corrects him by saying Arthur has a low-level telepathy Semblance, allowing him to sense certain things about others such as the emotional states of animals and the innate powers within people. It was how he was able to locate Clark in the mines that day and how he knew attacking Yang head-on was a bad move. When Blake guesses if his Semblance is how he knew she would try to save Yang if she was in danger, Arthur says that it was just "having eyes".
Once the chariot reaches their destination, Clark asks Arthur to join them: they didn't have the chance to help each other before, but they do now. Arthur accepts and begins to apologize to Yang, who reprimands him for flirting with Blake because she is "way out of his league". Arthur awkwardly explains that he was actually apologizing for trying to drown Yang, which she quickly accepts. As the four walk off inland, Clark tells Arthur that Ozpin will need to talk to them.
But while they leave, a group of sea-based Faunus observe the group with glowing eyes.
Chapter 8: The Ambush[]
The group reunites in Vale and introduce their new friends during their mission. They debate going back to Ozpin and reporting what they have found, but the teens are suddenly ambushed by possessed Grimm, civilians, and Huntsmen. Among them is a hypnotized Team JNPR, all of them wearing white masks and glowing eyes just as Jesse had described. The group works on restraining rather than injuring their possessed friends, but they are vastly outnumbered ten to one. As they hold the ground against the possessed, Bruce recognizes some individuals and recalls where they were last seen: one civilian kidnapped near the Atrous Fountain, multiple Faunus villagers taken from a sea cove settlement, and wet clothes, wet shoes, and wet hair on all of them. Each possessed individual was captured off islands and coastlines, and Bruce reveals that whatever is doing this is using water to capture people, from harbors and sewers to fountains and drainpipes. Right as he says this, Ruby hits Pyrrha with a hard swing from Crescent Rose, shattering her mask and revealing a star-shaped symbol on Pyrrha's face.
The tide of possessed begins to get overwhelming for the teens, who must retreat soon. Suddenly, a streak of green light shoots across the sky: the same light Victor remembers seeing shortly after his spaceship disaster. The light slows, revealing a woman in green, who looks upon the scene in horror and exclaims "Oh no. I'm too late."
As the group keeps fighting, Ruby internally monologues that she knows she belongs at Beacon: a place where she doesn't have to hide who she is or the people she loves, where she doesn't have to hide what she can do or why she wants to, and she wishes everyone could feel the same way she does. Everyone deserves to belong, not be someone else's belonging. Ruby vows to free all her friends and all of the possessed people and show whoever or whatever did this what happens when someone is treated like a thing.
The mysterious emerald woman generates a ship construct from a green ring on her hand, but it won't be ready to fly unless everyone works together to help make the construct real. Victor laments that he doesn't have a metal strong enough that won't absorb heat or fry the capacitor until Diana offers nacre instead, which is a suitable material. Weiss fortifies the construct's hull with protective glyphs and Yang uses her Burn Semblance to kickstart the engines. The group boards the ship with Diana in the pilot's seat and start the takeoff procedure, but the possessed latch onto the ship and slowly drag it back down to the ground. Fortunately for the team, the sun is rising and Clark jumps off the ship, his Semblance now at full strength in the daylight and allowing him to push the ship upward. With enough lift and altitude, the emerald ship leaves the possessed horde behind and flies off into the sky.
With everyone in the clear, the green woman introduces herself as Jessica Cruz. Like Clark, she has a great power and she is to blame for what has happened to the people of Remnant. With Yang and Blake resting, Diana and Victor piloting the ship, Bruce offering Weiss a drink, and Arthur and Barry conked out from exhaustion, Jessica approaches Clark and Ruby. She projects images of various planets from her ring and asks Ruby if she wants to know what's really going on...
