The Mysterious Orb[]

After Team RWBY become Huntresses, their first big mission begins with them looking into an increase in numbers of Grimm by investigating the tundra of Solitas close to Mantle. While investigating, they discover an orb that starts to attract the Grimm and are forced to destroy it to drive them away. After managing to gather what was left of the orb, the team took it with them to Pietro's Pharmacy so Pietro Polendina and Maria Calavera could look at it. While Pietro needed time to repair the device and learn what it was, he informed the team that General James Ironwood had tasked them with checking the situation in the settlement of Essen.

After arriving at the settlement, Team RWBY meet Russet Ka, one of the two guardians of Essen. He explains to them that the Grimm recently attempted to destroy Essen just like what had happened to the settlement of Crossed. Due to his armor being damaged in the previous attack, he asks Team RWBY to help him forge new armor made with two essential ore. Team RWBY managed to obtain two of the orbs by exploring the ruins of Crossed and helping Cerise Claire, a former resident of Crossed, get her precious book containing information about her ancestors that fought in the Great War back from the ruins and give the pickaxe she rewards them to Zure Ayu so she could mine for Combustion Dust in the caves near Essen. While exploring the ruins of Crossed, the team encounter Penny Polendina there investigating a strange electromagneticly locked gate as well. Once they obtain the ore, they go back to Pietro so he could forge the new armor just as he finished repairing the mysterious orb and realized that it was Technology from Fort Arrowfell, an old Atlas Military base before handing it back to them. Once Team RWBY give the new set of armor to Russet Ka, he revealed that the Grimm were getting close to attacking Essen again even after trapping a Megoliath in part of the village and that they might be forced to abandon it if the situation continued as it is. When Team RWBY hear about this, they head towards the area with the Megoliath and confront it in battle.

After seemingly defeating it and letting their guard down, the Megoliath gets back up and knocks them down as it attempted to kill them. Before it could however, four Huntresses named Bianca Prisma, Roane Ashwood, Ivy Thickety, and Ruda Tilleroot attack the Megoliath and manage to kill it with ease while saving Team RWBY. Just when Team RWBY wanted to know who exactly they were, Essen's second guardian Bram Thornmane angrily arrives and told the four of them to leave due to not wanting to deal with them again. After they left the area, Bram introduces himself to Team RWBY and revealed that the four they encountered were Team BRIR, a rogue Huntress team that only protected villages across Solitas for a price. Bram also revealed he originally trained to be a member of the Ace Operatives until he was rejected before noticing the mysterious orb in Team RWBY's possession and taking it off their hands. When the team wanted to know more about the orb, Bram told them to ask Lieutenant Colonel Olive Harper due to her experience before they left Essen.

Aces and Wild Cards[]

Once Team RWBY return to Atlas Academy and discuss with Harper about how the orb was found in the Tundra, she tells them that they need a little more time to figure out who was responsible and tells them to help Clover Ebi and the other Ace Operatives with their current missions in the meantime. After meeting with Clover who already finished his own mission, he tells Team RWBY to assist his teammates with their own missions as they are sent throughout the city of Atlas and the areas of the Tundra close to the capital with the exception of Elm Ederne who also already finished her own mission and asked the team to help her find some Grape Soda while promising to look up information regarding Team BRIR.

When the team explore the city of Atlas however, they notice that the streets were starting to crawl with mobsters that had high-tech Atlas Military technology on them as well. While meeting up with Harriet Bree, she asks for their help with investigating a weapons furnishing operation that had happened in the southern coast Dust Mine of Solitas by gathering three pieces of weapons technology in the mine due to it's possible connection with the mobsters having high-tech weapons on them. When the team return with the weapon pieces, Harriet thanks them and helps teach Ruby Rose how to use her Petal Burst Semblance more effectively and increases the distance she can travel when she uses it as a reward. While in Atlas, the team also meet up with Marrow Amin who had already finished up his mission but misplaced his goggles in the Tumak Ruins and asks for their help in retrieving them.

While the team visit the Tumak Ruins in the tundra, they meet up with Vine Zeki who was tasked with retrieving three relics taken from the site by historians in the past so they could reopen access to the ruins to the public sometime in the future and asks for their help retrieving them across the city of Atlas and the tundra. After they get all three, Vine thanks the team since their actions would help them reopen the site sometime in the future. Once the team fully explore the ruins, they also encountered Penny once again investigating another electromagneticly locked gate as well as retrieve Marrow's goggles and return them to him. As thanks, he gives them a can of Grape Soda he accidentally ordered that they later give to Elm. When they ask her what she could find about Team BRIR, Elm mentions that she couldn't find anything about the team in the Special Operatives Unit directory or in the Atlas Academy database and that they were likely rouge mercenaries like Bram had previously told them.

After Team RWBY finish helping the Ace Operatives with their missions, they return to Harper as she revealed that they found a lead on Atlas mobster Amoncio Glass who they believe was responsible for the orb the team encountered as well as the weapons furnishing operation Harriet was investigating due to the mobsters on the streets of Atlas working for him. Weiss Schnee stated that Glass was a shady individual who was constantly involved in the criminal underworld of Atlas and that even her father Jacques Schnee wouldn't do business with him. Harper asks the team to confront Glass in downtown Atlas to learn what they can from him. When they arrive, Amoncio Glass confronts them himself while warning the team to stay out of his business and asking them if they even knew who they were messing with. When Ruby stated that she really didn't know who he was, an annoyed Amoncio Glass told them that they would settle it right at that moment before being frightened by Team RWBY when they took out their weapons and ran into a nearby building. As the team contemplates going after him, Glass returns while inside a giant mech known as the "Glass Cannon MK II" and fights them before Team RWBY destroy the mech.

Following the battle, the team demand answers from Glass about the mysterious orb that they encountered in the tundra and about his involvement with it. Glass than reveals to them that the orbs act as bait to attract the Grimm to their location due to containing negative emotions such as fear inside of them and that he helped distribute them but wasn't the one responsible for the plan. When Team RWBY asks him who was really responsible, he revealed that even he didn't really know due to his client using codenames to avoid their identity from being revealed before Glass asked the team to leave him alone.

Playing With Emotions[]

As Team RWBY return to Atlas Academy once again, they find Harper informing General James Ironwood about what the team had just accomplished as well as Thornmane being present as well. As everyone present discuss the current situation, Harper reveals that they believed Amoncio Glass only managed to get his hands on the technology he armed his goons with thanks to the help of someone inside the military and that the negative emotions inside the orbs were being stolen by someone in the Kingdom. Harper, Thornmane and Ironwood reveal that the only person they knew who was capable of doing it was Mantle's most well-respected Union leader, Hanlon Fifestone, due to his Semblance Raw Emotion allowing him to extract emotions from people. Fearing that the orbs may be an attempt to attack Amity Communications Tower, they leave Team RWBY in charge of locating Firestone in order to stop him from stealing more emotions from people by locating his current position in Mantle as the team heads out to investigate.

When the team arrive at Mantle, they meet up with Qrow Branwen who is already aware of their investigation into Fifestone and tells them that he has five security drones around the area that could tell them where he could be and asks for the team's help in getting all five of them back to him with he majority of them likely being in Mantle's "Crater Caverns". While there, Qrow reveals that he took Winter's Saber to mess with her and asks them to give it back to her when they get the chance. Before they went out to investigate, they met a Faunus worker named Mikado Lem who noticed that Blake was a Faunus just like her and told her to be careful due to Faunus workers around Mantle starting to mysteriously disappear recently. While talking with her, the team learn from her that Fifestone was last seen in Mosset Grotto the previous day and planned on investigating the area as well before she asked if they had anything that could help hide her Faunus traits as Blake revealed that she had a spare bow of hers that she could have but previously misplaced it.

When the team return to Atlas Academy and encounter Winter Schnee there, they return her saber to her before she asks for their help with dealing with a pre-existing deal between the Atlas Military and the Schnee Dust Company to locate a new Dust mine by going to the potential mining site and obtaining a sample of the Dust inside. After the team investigate the mine and return with the sample Dust, Winter learns that the Dust has specks and imperfections in it making the site unusable and that her father wouldn't be happy about it. Before Team RWBY left, Winter asked Weiss if she was keeping up with her training and noticed how she was using a lot of her Dust to make only one of her Glyphs and taught her how to make two Glyphs using the same amount as before and gave them the bow Blake previously misplaced as another reward. When they gave the bow to Mikado, Blake asked her if she really wanted to hide her faunus traits out of fear of prejudice. After hearing this, Mikado decided not to hide her faunus traits and kept the bow as thanks for helping her and decided to help Blake learn how to use Shadow to create another clone of herself without the first one fading.

After the Team investigated the crater caverns and found at least three of the security drones, they investigated Mosset Grotto and found a man named Mossius Berbere at the depths of the grotto who claimed to be the mayor of "Moss Town" all around them as the team asked him about Fifestone being there the previous day with Mossius admitting he himself wasn't present at the time of Fifestone's visit. With most of the team except Ruby believing him to be crazy, they attempted to leave before Mossius asked for their help to retrieve his pet Goshawk due to losing it in the Tumak Ruins when he visited yesterday. After the Team accepted his request and later retrieved his Goshawk from the Tumak Ruins, he thanked them by rewarding them with one of the security drones he found in the Grotto and bringing the amount that they had up to four. When the team decided to investigate the streets of Mantle itself and found the last security drone there, they also ran into Penny once again investigating another electromagneticly locked gate and left her to return to Qrow.

When they returned to Qrow with all five security drones, he managed to not only find more information about Fifestone's activities in Mantle, but also located his current position at the Mantle industrial center. Before the team left to confront Fifestone, Qrow asked them to be careful since he wouldn't know what to do it something bad were to happen to them. When the team reach Fifestone, they see him extracting the fear from a Faunus worker and putting it into one of the orbs while learning that he was the one also behind the recent disappearances of Faunus. Right when he was preparing to kill the worker he stole emotions from, Blake kicks him out of the way as Yang punches him through a wall and into an unused tunnel as the rest of the team go after him. Following a fight between them, Blake calls Fifestone out for hurting the very workers he was supposed to be protecting as a union leader as he admitted that he had no choice but to do so. Right as the military arrest him, he admits to the team that in the past he tried to use his Semblance to try and bridge the divide between Atlas and Mantle after he left the military to become a union leader before he realized his attempts weren't working. As he is taken away, Fifestone tells Team RWBY that what happened next was their own fault as he activated a remote in his hands.

Hunt of the Huntresses[]

When the team return to Atlas Academy, they learn from Harper and Ironwood that Grimm attacks had started to increase again all over Solitas and realized that Fifestone had activated orbs located all over Solitas while believing that he was just another pawn in the conspiracy. While Harper and Ironwood try to locate the true culprit behind the conspiracy, they task Team RWBY with locating the four orbs across Solitas that were attracting the Grimm and to destroy them including investigating the ice fishing village of Dormir. When the team reach the village, they learn from the villagers that the ruins off Crossed were swarming with more Grimm than before and hinting that one of the orbs was located there. While they were in the village, they met Zure Ayu again as she thanked them for their assistance with mining Combustion Dust and stated that she gave the first one she found to her sister Cye Ayu while telling the team to talk to her. When they meet Cye, she thanks them for helping her sister and decided to give them the Combustion Dust she got from her sister with the team initially reluctant to accept it due to it being rare to find it in such a pure form before deciding to fully accept the gift. When they received it, Yang's Semblance Burn was powered up thanks to Cye teaching her how to effectively use the Dust and granted her the ability to destroy metal blocks. Thanks to this upgrade, the team eventually found the four orbs in the ruins of Crossed, the Tumak Ruins, Mantle and Dormir in areas behind metal blocks which they destroy. While they were investigating Dormir, they met with Penny once again investigating another electromagneticly locked gate.

After they return to Atlas Academy, Harper and Ironwood inform them that they located the mastermind behind the conspiracy and that they were holding up in a stronghold north of Atlas. Because of this, Harper stated that they planned to send an entire Atlas Military battalion including Soldiers, AK-200s and advanced Atlesian Paladin-290s to the stronghold by a train from Gehen Station with Team RWBY accompanying them to catch the true culprit behind the conspiracy. When they arrive on the southwestern most island of Solitas where Gehen Station is located, they meet the attendant Claret Berbere and learn that all of the expenses for the train have already been paid for by the military. When the team get on the train however, the Atlas Military forced onboard act hostile towards them as well as Atlas mobster goons being onboard the train as well. While the team are forced to defend themselves and questions why Atlesian Forced were attacking them, Ruby realized that Harper was actually part of the conspiracy and that she had set them up due to wanting to get them out in the middle of nowhere to get rid of them just as the train carrying them crashed close to nearby ruins. When they come to, Weiss briefly sees Team BRIR again on one of the columns before they vanished as the team are forced to proceed into the ruins.

As the team reach the depths of the ruins, they are confronted by Team BRIR who act hostile towards them as well and stated that they would stop them as the "Keepers of Arrowfell" and due to Bram Thornmane paying them to stop the team. After they hear this, they realized Bram Thornmane was the true mastermind behind the conspiracy involving the orbs as Team BRIR attack them in battle. After Team RWBY defeat Team BRIR, they reveal that after they first met, Thornmane told them that Team RWBY were the ones that stole the orbs from Fort Arrowfell and using them all across Solitas. When Team RWBY attempted to convince the team that they weren't responsible and that Thornmane lied to them, they don't believe them and retreat while swearing to them that they would meet again.

The End of Arrowfell[]

When Team RWBY return to Atlas Academy, they learn from General Ironwood that both Harper and Thornmane had both retreated into Fort Arrowfell after they were discovered to be behind the conspiracy and that they managed to use Amoncio Glass to distribute the orbs while threatening Hanlon Fifestone to help them using his Semblance to get the emotions to power them. Whenever Team RWBY and the Atlas Military were getting close to discovering the truth, Harper willingly sold out her fellow co-conspirators to keep them off their trail until it was just her and Thornmane. Ironwood also realized that their target was never Amity Communications Tower, but himself due to Thornmane wanting to use the orbs to cause more Grimm attacks so the people of the Kingdom would see Ironwood in a bad light and blame him for them. While they discuss how to access Fort Arrowfell, Ironwood states that the only people who have official access to the facility anymore are the "Keepers of Arrowfell" whose identities were a secret only known to Ironwood's predecessors in the military that they kept with them to the grave with even the council unaware of their identities. When they hear this, Team RWBY revealed that Team BRIR called themselves the "Keepers of Arrowfell" and realized that they had to locate it's members to gain access to the facility while Ironwood sent out all of his forces across the continent in an attempt to locate them as well.

When Team RWBY arrive at Fort Arrowfell, they find Clover and Penny there as well while trying to unlock the gate. Clover revealed for he team that in order to locate Team BRIR and gain access to the facility, they needed to gain access to the "Crystal Nexus", a connected series of tunnels underneath all of Solitas that they had been using to travel from place to place. As they wondered where the entrances to the Crystal Nexus were, Penny revealed that they were at the four electromagneticly locked gates she had previously found under the ruins of Crossed, the Tumak Ruins, Mantle and Dormir and that she finally managed to get the frequency needed to unlock all four gates. When they reach the depths of each Crystal Nexus tunnel after fighting against the forces of the conspiracy, Team RWBY find each member of Team BRIR waiting for them as they all finally realized that Bram Thornmane had lied to them and used them in his conspiracy. As their way of making up for it and realizing that Thornmane had to be stopped, all four members have Team RWBY their Nexus Keys needed to unlock the entrance to Fort Arrowfell as Team RWBY enters the fortress to confront Harper and Thornmane.

While fighting against the forces of the conspiracy in the fortress, they eventually reach Harper who had become remorseful for everything she had done. She admitted that she originally helped Thornmane due to believing that it might have been the only way to help the situation with both Atlas and Mantle at the time even if it meant losing her rank and position in the military before she saw through his deception. Finally realizing the real reason Ironwood never chose Thornmane to be a member of the Ace Operatives and revealing that she was the member of the military that gave Amoncio Glass the technology needed for the conspiracy, Harper stated to Team RWBY that she wasn't going to stop them and that she was planning to turn herself in before wishing them luck with dealing with Thornmane. As Team RWBY finally reached the deepest part off Fort Arrowfell where Bram Thornmane was located, they confronted him and fought him in battle with Thornmane even using more of the orbs to summon Grimm to assist him.

Right before Team RWBY defeat Thornmane, they ask him why he was doing all of this as he revealed that he grew to despise General Ironwood when he wasn't chosen to be a member of the Ace Operatives since he wanted to be seen as a hero and admired by the people. After Team RWBY defeat Thornmane, the Atlas Military arrive and prepare to arrest him with Ironwood himself coming to confront Thornmane. As Thornmane asked about where Harper and Team BRIR were, Ironwood revealed that they learned of his deception and abandoned him to his fate while confronting him him about how he never was targeting Amity Communications Tower but himself instead and by using Amoncio Glass and Hanlon Fifestone in his conspiracy, he only exposed more corruption within up the Kingdom in the process. As the military drag Thornmane away, he angrily tells at Ironwood that it would only be a matter of time until the people saw him for what he really was before he is taken away. Following this, Ironwood congratulated Team RWBY for completing their first real mission as Huntresses as he walked away and Team RWBY were glad that they completed it as a team.
