Founding of the Schnee Dust Company[]
Nicholas has not been physically shown in the main series itself, but his existence and history were detailed in "Schnee Dust Company".
In his youth, Nicholas attended combat school and mined with his father in Mantle. Upon his father's death, he inherited what little his father had and used the money to gather a mining team and discover a Dust deposit. Nicholas personally oversaw Dust expeditions around the world and built a trustworthy, upstanding reputation for the Schnee Dust Company that led to the company's success. Despite this, Nicholas was not a great businessman and the company was constantly in debt.
In one instance, both the Schnee Dust Company and the Mistral Trading Company mined the Dust deposits in Vacuo and depleted the Kingdom of its once bountiful natural resource. Because of this, many people in the Kingdom's capital city still resent the other Kingdoms. After the Dust deposits were all depleted, they eventually abandoned many of their Dust refineries in Vacuo, one of them later being used by The Crown as a base of operations.
Eventually, Nicholas was forced to retire as his youth spent in the mines caused his health to fail. He allowed his son-in-law, Jacques Gélé, to inherit the SDC upon being convinced by the latter to do so. However, Jacques later revealed to his wife that he only married her to take the Schnee family name and the company for himself.
Under Jacques' leadership, the company became greatly profitable but started to use controversial practices such as abusing Faunus workers and working with shady business partners while destroying the public image Nicholas had built for the SDC in the process.
