Actually if you check out my signature again, there is a different Pokémon when you refresh the page every time.
And yes I am a big fan of the Pokémon series. I started watching the show when it first aired in the US and currently own at least on game from each generation, even if I didn't play them in order (started with Gold/Silver before buying Red used later). Gold/Silver and their remakes are probably my favorite, but Ruby/Sapphire and their remakes are my least.
Too much water (lol, but I don't know if you will get the joke).
But anyway one of my favorite things about the games are replaying them, usually with a different team. However the Pokémon overall I didn't like, meaning I ended up with almost the same team every time. Torchic was usually my started because I didn't like how the final forms of the other starters looked. The one water type I wanted (Feebas) was almost impossible to find so I had to fall back on past generation Pokémon which kind of defeated the purpose of a new region.
Aside from the Pokémon, there was very little to do after beating the Elite Four, basically just finding the legendary Pokémon. Even those were a pain because you needed to know brail to figure out what to do; the infobook with the game came with a brail dictionary, but didn't say what it was for and I bought it used, so no infobook.
Another problem was the HM system. You near constantly need to have at least two HM-slaves on hand to go anywhere. Most caves need strength/rock smash/sometimes flash, water routes need surf/dive/waterwall, and even normal routes require rock smash or cut, meaning at least one spot is always taken up by someone you aren't going to use. Plus surfing is just like walking in a cave, so when half the map is water it can get annoying.
Lastly it didn't feel like as big a jump from Gen2 to Gen3 as Gen1 to Gen2, not counting graphics. A lot was introduced in Gold/Silver that even to this day are still used (breeding, daily events, night/day, ect.), but I feel like all Gen3 introduced that lasted was natures/abilities. Contests normally come back in some form, but I don't know anyone that plays them because they are fun. They even removed the night/day cycle for some reason and the only clock in the game was in your house and you couldn't even adjust it for daylight savings time. Plus it wasn't backwards compatible which was kind of a shame, especially when you consider that you can still transfer Pokémon from R/S to the current generation (requires a lot of work however). Even the remakes kind of have this problem, with the new Mega-stones in ORAS not being compatible with X/Y, so you can't trade them or battle someone with them.
The only thing I really liked about the game was the story with the two rival teams fighting each other...and Absol.
Oh, I see. Yeah, feebas and the constant requirement of HM Slaves was annoying. The remakes made Feebas easier to catch though, and easier to evolve.
The reason they removed the night/day cicle was because the Gold/Silver games used an internal clock or something like that. It's batteries weren't rechargeable or be taken out, last for about a decade, then they die and all your data is reseted. An universal retcon.
And probably, they were somewhat expensive for it's time. So they removed them. With the better technologies and the DS itself having an internal clock, unlike the Game Boy, the cycle could return with no problem.
But R/S/E had a clock as well, you even need to set it at the start of the game. If I recall correctly, you could even evolve Eevee into Umbreon as long as it was between a certain hour that would be considered night (FireRed/Leaf/Green did not have a clock however). The fact that there wasn't a day/night effect I feel was just lazy. That was another thing I liked about Gold/Silver, Pokémon being different at night when compared to the day.
Gold/Silver and their remakes, which were kind of like a mix of Crystal's story. That is another thing; your Pokémon could follow you around in HeartGold/SoulSilver, but not in any of the future games. Not a big thing, just a little disappointing. Do you have a favorite?
Definitely G/S/C for me too. 3rd Gen also annoyed me, because Facing water pokemon so much is boring, they could have at least made other water pokemon more common, because Tentacool or those annoying Winguls get so boring, and the only electric pokemon I recall being common were Pikachu/electrike... one I used before and the other... is disappointing for a long time, it doesn't help that my favorite types are either underepresented in that Gen or such a pain to train.
My favorite...hard to say. Though there's one that is more special than the rest to me:
-Pokemon D/P/Pl. My first Pokemon game was Diamond, started with Piplup, which...grew up to an annoyingly strong Empoleon somehow (it 1-hit-KOed Dialga, was 4 levels lower than it by then, and used Surf, no critical. I just wanted to catch it :c).
The pokemons had a good enough variety for my tastes, and had a great amount of legendaries to catch. The only sad part was that it was way too easy, I almost beated Cynthia using only Empoleon lv53 (He eventually lost due to a lucky Earthquake).
Despite that, it still has fond memories of it. I got my Big Poke 6 team and had a great time with them, though a pretty easy time at that. Though funnily enough, they weren't particularly OP:
1-Empoleon/Praetor. The nuker, half-tank, leader, the one that can't use Surf without taking 50% of your health at least. Which was why I had to use it carefully in double battles, as a single Surf was enough to KO everyone else on my team.
2-Staraptor/Razorwing. Another nuker, but more physical and has better iniciative. Also my anti-evasion-spammers member of the team, along with 6.
3-Luxray/Leo-Lux. This one was more balanced, didn't use him much but when I did he didn't do particularly bad. He held his ground often, and dealt quite the damage. And I also had a small combo in Doubles, starting with him and Razorwing for Double Intimidate. Leo-Lux was more or less a Jack-of-all-Trades in anything but Type Coverage.
4-Camerupt/TaurusFire. Similar to Empoleon in role, but with different type. He was usefull in single battles, with powerful moves and offensive stats. In Doubles, it was harder because 3/4 attacks targeted everyone. However, it was less painful with Razorwing or Praetor alongside him.
5-Lucario/Jackal. The single-target nuker of the team. Had Aura Sphere, Psychich and Shadow Ball along with Extreme Speed. He was good all-around, but his main use was to take down key targets on the enemy pokemon quickly. He didn't usually last too long compared to the rest, but he was supposed to own before getting owned.
6-Weavile/Name is changed constantly. The same role as Jackal, but has some moves that can hit the 2 oponents, and is a lot faster, and has the highest Physical ATK of the team. She was like a bullet, go in, 1-hit-KO the target, switch to someone else next turn. She also resisted more than I expected.
I also went back last year and chose to train a 2nd team. It consists of a Porygon Z (Nuker), a Gallade (Set-up Killer), a Pupitar (on it's way to be a tank), a Vespiqueen (Semi-Tank), and haven't decided yet the last 2, but been thinking of a Magnezone and a Kingdra.
1. Check your messages on CHB and stop ignoring us. :(
2. Are you going to be inactive since the series is over or will you still just casually exist the way Borean is? I've listed you as inactive for now.
Thanks, and hope everything is going well for you.
I swear I'm not ignoring you guys on purpose. I went on vacation for Thanksgiving for something like 8 days. When I came back, my internet was shut off and I didn't have the money to turn it back on until about a week or two ago. Not like it mattered at that point because my poor laptop of 7-8 years died horribly. A friend gave me his old laptop, but it doesn't have a charger and the model is so old they don't make them anymore. The guy at Best Buy laughed at me...not really but he found it amusing then tried to talk me into buying a computer. If I had money for a new computer, I wouldn't have been there desperately looking for a charger for a computer that still has Windows XP. The only salvation I had was my Aunt who got a Windows Surface, but hated it and stuck with her laptop. So she gave it to me as a very late Christmas present. I can see why she hated it as the thing has no processing power and crashes when I have more then 10 tabs open at once (I mean really).
Anyway in short, I do plan on coming back and being more active. It is just that a huge string of unfortunate incidents have been piling up over the past two years now and that piled kind of fell over on top of me. However I am trying very hard to dig myself out.
Not yet, I've been checking back every few days. It should be out some time this week, but I can't say for sure yet. I've also been a little absent lately; I went on vacation in November and came home to find my internet was shut off and I didn't get it back until late December. But by then, my computer had exploded and I can't afford another one. Thankfully my Aunt let me borrow her Windows tablet thing. It has no processing power and I can't even download Firefox onto it! But it is better than nothing.
Hey man, I've been thinking about starting a wiki for the DC Animated Movie Universe. So the wiki would basically only be covering the DC animated movies set in the same universe. You interested? I know your a big fan of the movies.
Hey it's me Ghost obviously. I was wondering since It's been 2 years and Hermione obviously doesn't have much of a say anymore and I have calmed down, I was wondering if you and Sayuri and Hyperborean could talk about letting me back. Also I'm honored you guys called me the last month's honored wikian. So hit me up on my talk page on there. This was the only place I could talk to you. Sorry.
I mean I downloaded it because Wikia asked me to join a book talk a few times, but we ended up using Google-chat instead so I don't even know if I have an account an if I do, no idea what the password is.
Oh alright. I was just wondering, because I'm trying to get you and the other rollbacks into a Skype group if possible to expedite communication about various wiki things, rather than a broken game of telephone with certain things. If you do decide to make a new account, or figure out your old one, let me know.
I think I pulled it up. Thankfully the computer remembered my log-in and I only use about 6 different passwords so it was one of those. I think my username is nolan.swift.1111, or at least that is what it says at the top. Not much experience with skype I'm afraid.
Hey Darkcloud, I've have only lurked around this wikia ever since the end of Volume 1 and been the person who usually uploads silhouettes/symbols but I'm here to ask where could I make a request for another User badge. I don't know if it had moved or been re-categorized but I've only found the category of it. And if it's in the same spot as always, I'ma end up feeling real dumb :p
Also, I'm asking you this considering you made the Silhouettes badge from my request.
