Merlot's Laboratory was a private facility owned by Doctor Merlot who was using the area to further his research on Mutated Grimm and Artificial Intelligence.
History[]
After the destruction of Mountain Glenn, Merlot decided that it would be best to make a fresh start elsewhere and after faking his death, would move his base of operations onto a secluded island in the middle of nowhere so as to continue his experiments in privacy and without the interference of others who might try to stop him.
While on the island, Merlot discovered a strange naturally occurring chemical substance that appeared unique to the island he was now inhabiting. This substance had a strange effect on the Grimm making them far more dangerous than any normal Grimm.
Inspired by this discovery, Merlot would begin collecting new specimen of Grimm so as to continue his experiments into creating the perfect Mutated Grimm with which to help better humanity. While on the island, he would also begin advancing his research into Artificial Intelligence, eventually successfully building the Melee Androids and the Ranged Androids.
Unfortunately for Merlot, he was eventually discovered accidentally by a team of Huntresses from Beacon who had been assigned to investigate the area after Merlot's activities in the Emerald Forest had started to be noticed.
Team RWBY eventually tracked the activity to Forever Falls, the ruins of Mountain Glenn and finally, to Merlot's Island where a battle between the Huntresses and Merlot's deadly creations would ensue. Finally, after they managed to defeat Merlot's ultimate creation, the Mutated Death Stalker, Merlot would become enraged by this invasion and would angrily cause the destruction of his own facility rather than risk getting captured by them.
In the end, Merlot's laboratory was seemingly completely destroyed along with the mad scientist with it, though his laughter at the end of the credits indicate that he survived.
