Lewis and his sister Alyx, both from Vacuo in a time before the Great War, had both somehow fallen into the world of the Ever After through unknown means. After landing in the Ever After, both siblings would travel through the foreign world and go through many dangers in order to find their way home.
During their journey, the had come upon and met Jaune Arc, another human from Remnant, who agreed to help them return home and began traveling with them. The siblings would also come across the Curious Cat, a native Afteran of the realm, who was convinced by his sister to help them return home in exchange for taking them along with them back to Remnant.
During their journey through the Ever After and according to the story of the Girl Who Fell Through the World, the siblings would come across many trials during their journey to the Great Tree in order to get to the Realm's exit, including getting trapped in Hunting Vines, getting captured by Hunter Mice, battling a Jabberwalker and Alyx losing her dagger to the Jinxy Peddler and requiring her to sacrifice both her happiest and saddest memories to trade it back. Although unknown how much of these events and Alyx's actions were true as Lewis had omitted himself from the story.
During their journey and a part that was omitted from the story, Alyx, Lewis and the Cat had come across the Herbalist, who welcomed them into his home. As shown, while Alyx was notably delighted by him and enjoyed speaking with him, both Lewis and the Cat was uncomfortable around the Herbalist and was hesitant to speak with him. After speaking with the Herbalist, something was said to have changed in the Alyx. Alyx was said to have become more paranoid and untrusting after meeting the Herbalist and began making wild accusations against Jaune, The Cat and even Lewis and distrusted them completely.
Despite this however, Alyx continued to travel with her brother to the Great Tree. After having poisoned Jaune and left him for dead, Alyx was able to somehow convince Lewis and the Cat to continue accompanying her to the Great Tree.
According to Jaune, Lewis never escaped the Ever After, because Alyx sacrificed him to the Tree so that she could escape the Ever After. Jaune later learns he was wrong as when he confronts the Curious Cat at the Great Tree, they reveal that Lewis did indeed escape the Ever After, but Alyx did not, as she had a change of heart that compelled her to stay and fix the mistakes she made which caused the Curious Cat to kill her. As Alyx never made it out of the Ever After, he was the true author of The Girl Who Fell Through The World.
