Good Fortune,[1][2] was the Semblance of Clover Ebi. It debuts in the episode "Ace Operatives" of Volume 7.
It caused good luck to happen around him.
Description[]
Clover's Semblance was stated to be "good fortune", which allowed him to manipulate probability positively. Like Qrow's Misfortune, Clover's was also constantly active, but instead it caused good fortune wherever he went with varying effects, from being miraculously saved from cave-ins, to being saved from a Teryx by a random piece of debris, to casually catching an unstable Dust crystal, to even giving him good card hands in card games.
Another clear difference between Clover's "Good Fortune" in comparison to Qrow's "Misfortune" was that while Qrow's Semblance does not discriminate between who it affects and brings constant "bad luck" to everyone around him, Clover's "Good Fortune" seemingly only affected and brought him "Good Luck" in whatever he did, instead of indiscriminately constantly giving "Good Luck" to everyone around him.
Clover had a habit of flicking his pin to signal his Semblance is in effect. It isn't known if it was an activation requirement, a focusing tool, or merely a subconscious habit.
Due to its passive nature, it was not always known what effects were up to his Semblance and what were coincidences. It is also not known how much of his combat success was because of his Semblance. However, given that his Semblance was the only reason his track record was better than that of Elm Ederne's, it likely played at least a small role in his successes. It was shown that Clover constantly relied on his Semblance for success.
History[]
Clover's Semblance is first seen in "Ace Operatives". Qrow felt upset that his Semblance might cause trouble, only to be surprised by Clover revealing his own good luck Semblance. His luck creates an opportunity to slide down lower into the mine and he later casually catches an unstable Dust crystal. He also activated his Semblance to make an impossible hook on the Frosted Petra Gigas Geist, pulling it out of the rocks it was hiding in for Harriet Bree to kill.
In "Sparks", Clover's Semblance gives him an unfair advantage against Qrow while playing cards.
When Team RWBY and the Ace-Ops are onboard a broken Manta, Clover activates his Semblance, leading to the Manta's right wing breaking and hitting a Teryx clinging to the ship, getting rid of it.
Clover likely used his Semblance in his fights to land lucky shots when fighting Tyrian in "Gravity" alongside Qrow and Robyn, while fighting Qrow and Robyn in the airship in "With Friends Like These", and later against Qrow and Tyrian in the same episode. After Qrow shatters Clover's Aura, Clover's Good Fortune Semblance lost it's effects and allowed Tyrian to kill Clover and frame Qrow for his death.
Legacy[]
In "The Final Word", Qrow holds Clover's pin and remembers him when the Atlas bomb was about to slide out of the ship. The bomb slides and catches itself on the cargo airship and turns off in a show of good luck.
Trivia[]
- His Semblance is part of his allusion to "A Fisherman's Good Luck".
- Clover's good luck Semblance and Qrow's bad luck Semblance are mirrors of each other.
