Golden Touch is the Semblance of Xanthe Rumpole. It debuts in RWBY: Before the Dawn and allows her to turn objects into gold permanently.
Description[]
Rumpole's Semblance allows her to turn materials she touches into gold.
Through this power, she can immobilize opponents by transforming their clothing into gold, and furthermore, due to gold's properties, render weapons useless as the metal is too soft and malleable, as is the case of one of Carmine Esclados' sai. When she activates her Semblance, Rumpole's eyes flash gold.
Outside of being limited by touch, Rumpole cannot revert the effects of her Semblance, though further limitations on her Semblance are currently unclear.
History[]
Sequentially, Rumpole first is described as using her Semblance in a fight with Carmine Esclados, rendering one of her sai null. Despite this, Carmine is able to defeat Rumpole, thus allowing The Crown to place her under Jax Asturias' Mind Control and making her a sleeper agent to the organization. The permanently affected sai was put on display at The Mirage, where the two fought.
After she is discovered and briefly fights Neptune Vasilias, Fox Alistair, and Yatsuhashi Daichi, Rumpole turns Neptune's jacket into gold.
Trivia[]
- Rumpole's Semblance is a reference to her allusion, Rumpelstiltskin, as she is able to change things into gold just like the titular character who could spin straw into gold.
- It may also be a reference to the cautionary tale of King Midas, who wished to be able to turn anything he wanted to gold just by touching it, exactly how Rumpole's Semblance functions.
