The following is a list of Ancient Past minor characters from RWBY, arranged alphabetically and categorically.
Salem's Unnamed Father/Lord[]
Salem's father as he appears in RWBY: Fairy Tales of Remnant
Salem had a cruel father who locked her in a tower where she was cut off from everyone else. Many warriors attempted to save Salem but fell to her father's power.
Prior to becoming a tyrant, Salem's father was a well-meaning hero who sought after fame, fortune, glory, and love. During one of his adventures, he met Salem's mother, rescuing her from a gang of raiders and getting everything, he ever wanted, becoming the lord of a great kingdom. Salem's mother soon became pregnant and fell ill, dying during childbirth as Salem was born. Originally, he had hoped their child would be born a boy so he would have an heir, but when Salem was born a girl, he was disappointed.
Despite this, he had developed a fear of losing Salem, prompting him to lock her in a giant tower and allowed only himself and Salem's nanny to see his daughter. To cope with the loss of his wife, the lord turned to paranoia and materialism, obsessing with his own wealth and as such visiting Salem less and less.
On Salem's 16th birthday, the lord told her he locked his daughter in the tower because his wife loved the view of the moon. Salem, however, hated it as she hatched a plan to escape her now-tyrant's grasp. Asking for a birthday gift, the lord gave her pen and paper upon her request, where she wrote stories of being locked by a monster who wished to keep her at home forever. After many warriors died trying to save her, Salem's father was one day killed by the legendary hero Ozma, who rescued Salem from him.
His story was then penned in The Girl in the Tower by his own daughter, who painted him in a cruel light. As he was a part of the first iteration of Humanity, he had magical abilities.
The moral of the fairy tale that Salem wrote about him was that anybody could turn evil no matter how good of a hero they once were.
In the animated adaptation of the Fairy Tale, the end credits of the episode label him under the name "Lord" and he is voiced by Jeb-Aguilar Kendrick.
Salem's Unnamed Mother[]
Little was really known about Salem's mother. A young woman who was rescued from a gang of raiders by an unnamed Warrior-King. The two would fall in love and eventually get married. At some point she would become pregnant.
On the day of their child's birth, she would successfully give birth to her first and only child, a beautiful baby girl whom they named Salem. Sadly, the strain of childbirth would prove too much for the young Warrior-Queen and she would pass away not long after.
It's implied that her passing affected Salem's father greatly as he would eventually change from a noble hero into a cruel and bitter tyrant not long after her passing.
According to her husband, she loved looking up at the moon during the night and that was how he was inspired to lock his daughter up in the tower.
Salem's Unnamed Nanny[]
The only person in the world who was ever allowed to see Salem other than her father while she was locked away in her tower. Salem's first real friend, the nanny would teach Salem to read and bring her stories and books of brave heroes and fairy tales to entertain Salem. In this way, Salem was inspired by the nanny to start writing her own stories about her imprisonment that would eventually lead to Ozma freeing her.
In the animated adaptation of the Fairy Tale, she is voiced by Rachel Doda.
Fat King[]

The first king Salem visited, called Fat King in the concept art.[1] She hurt herself with an axe to show her immortality. He was surrounded by food and drinks. After joining her on her quest, he was killed at the hands of the God of Darkness.
He resembles typical medieval European nobility.
Stern Queen[]
The second monarch Salem visited, called Stern Queen in the concept art.[2] Her throne was made out of pillows and was guarded by soldiers on each side. After joining Salem on her quest, she was killed at the hands of the God of Darkness.
Her dress has an Eastern aesthetic.
Zealous King[]
The third leader Salem visited, called Zealous King in the concept art.[3] He appeared to be a warrior-leader. He was shirtless and had a tattered robe. His belt featured a golden skull.
Salem kneeled, and he joined her. As he yelled, his soldiers appeared, wearing knightly armor with horned helmets and wielded swords and axes. After joining her on her quest, he was killed at the hands of the God of Darkness.
He resembles a barbarian.
Ozma and Salem's Daughters[]

In "The Lost Fable", when Ozma and Salem used their magic to become gods of the world, Salem gave birth to four daughters.
It was unknown if they would be able to wield magic as their parents were anomalies, but when the eldest daughter revealed that she could, it gave Salem an idea. She planned to replace Humanity with their own magical line, horrifying Ozma. When he tried escaping the castle with their daughters, Salem found out and the two got into a large fight that destroyed the castle. The details of their fight are not seen, but at the end, a burnt doll is shown, indicating that their daughters died in the fight. Lamenting that "we finally had freedom", Salem killed Ozma.
In “Fault”, Salem while waiting for Oscar Pine to wake up conjures smokey images of her daughters.
The Eldest Daughter was voiced by Jenn K. Tidwell and the Youngest Daughter was voiced by Lauren Aptekar.
The sisters wore dresses reminiscent of the four Maidens; blue (Winter, who also has ice crystal-like details), pink (Summer, whose yellow skirt also has a big Sun), green (Spring, whose bow and dress trimming also has a leaf-like pattern) and orange (Fall, with the upper parts in brown, similar to Amber's clothes).
The eldest daughter had a chain headdress and belt like the ones worn by Jinn.
Ozma Incarnation's Family[]
In "The Lost Fable", the family of one of Ozma's incarnations was briefly seen. It was shown that he had a wife and two children. They had tan skin and brown hair. The mother had blue eyes, while the children had Silver Eyes, unlike their parents.
Malik the Sunderer[]
Malik the Sunderer was the first king of Vacuo, having died over 1000 years ago. Though his lineage was so old its now untraceable, rumor has it that Malik's family lineage has a crown-shaped birthmark on each family member as a sign of kinghood. Allegedly, the Asturias family are descendants of Malik, though Gillian Asturias' lack of a natural birthmark heavily implies this to be untrue.[4]
Malik is the Semitic term translating to "king." It is also a common name for boys in Greenlandic, meaning "wave". To sunder, as in his title, means to break into two or more pieces or parts and to sever.
