Overview Image Gallery Behind the Scenes

Throughout the production of a series, a lot goes on behind the scenes in regards to planning and design, which often go through multiple stages before resulting in the final version that is seen on screen. Some concepts and ideas can have an effect on the show and characters, and unexpected occurrences during production can also lead to changes and additions to the plans for the show.

Appearance[]

Beowolves have undergone two redesigns in the course of the series.

In the "Red" Trailer, Beowolves resemble plain black anthropomorphic wolves with a short snout, solid red eyes, red teeth and black claws.

Patrick Rodriguez provided concept art for their Volume 1 redesign.[1] In the show proper, Beowolves have white bone spikes on their arms, knees, ankles and back. Their teeth are white, and they have white claws and a white bone mask with red markings on it. Their red eyes have orange and yellow to add the appearance of glowing, and their snout is still short.

In Volume 4, all Grimm are redesigned. For the most part, Beowolves retain their appearance from the previous three Volumes, but their mask now includes a series of sharp teeth, rather than the teeth of the upper jaw being inside of their mouth. The tongue is now black instead of pink, and there is a red glow in the throat. There is a black membrane between the jaws in each corner of the mouth, and their snout is longer. Their eyes are mostly yellow with red around the edge, and a red glow can trail from each eye.

Production[]

  • After Volume 3, Rooster Teeth changed animation software from Poser Pro 2013 to Autodesk Maya. With this change, the animation department also made all new models for RWBY, and all Grimm, including Beowolves, were redesigned.
