Ozma, now known as Ozpin, was an ancient warrior introduced in "The Lost Fable". He rescued Salem from her imprisonment in a tower, and both eventually fell in love with each other. However, when Ozma fell ill and died, Salem set out to convince the Gods to resurrect him. Ozma was revived by the God of Darkness, but killed again by the God of Light soon after. Ozma was eventually given a choice by the God of Light before he abandoned Remnant; he would be able to return to the land of the living to act as a guide for Humanity and protect the Relics, powerful items that when brought together would summon the Gods back to Remnant.
To do so, the God of Light gave him the ability to reincarnate after death, joining souls with another like-minded person so that he would never be alone. After being reborn, Ozma reunited with Salem. The two acted as gods, ruling over the world and creating a prosperous Kingdom, eventually even starting a family. However, they turned on each other after Ozma displayed his disagreement with Salem's plans for Humanity. Their children were killed in the ensuing battle and Salem slew Ozma, beginning the millennia-long feud between the two.
Some of the journeys he made during his incarnations were collected into the fairy tale known as The Infinite Man.[2]
At the start of RWBY, Ozma's current incarnation was Professor Ozpin, the Headmaster of Beacon Academy. Following his death at the hands of Cinder Fall during the Battle of Beacon, Ozma's soul joined with Oscar Pine.
Appearance[]
Original Life[]
During his first life Ozma had a medium-dark skintone with messy brown hair and brown eyes. He originally wore a blue-green tunic with a tan undershirt, a blue cape and black trousers with brown boots. Both his tunic and cape are outlined with golden markings. Over this, he wears metal armor held by brown belts and straps. The armor is etched with ornamental patterns.
First Incarnation[]
The first reincarnation of Ozma was still brown but had platinum blond hair. He at first wore a white tank top, leather gloves and boots, and brown pants, along with a blue sash tied around his waist and a pendant with a green jewel. By the time Ozma decided to alongside Salem become a god-like figure to mankind, he wore a more regal attire, featuring a dark gray coat with black shoulder pads along with details in light blue and dark blue cuffs. Under his coat, he wore a dark blue dress shirt with light blue linings and details and donned white gloves upon his hands. He also wore gray pants and black shoes.
The Infinite Man[]
The Infinite Man had a darker skintone than Ozma and also had dark brown hair, tied back as a locs ponytail. He wore a white cloak with circular concentric circle designs on it.
Hermit[]
One of a number of unnamed incarnations seen only in "The Lost Fable". An old, pale man with long dim gray hair, wearing nothing but tattered shorts, seemingly using his staff as a crutch to walk, whether from exhaustion or physical disability.
Drunkard[]
One of a number of unnamed incarnations seen only in "The Lost Fable". A younger brown man is seen downing a bottle of an unknown (implied to be alcoholic) beverage, wearing a modern-looking green coat, brown trousers and black-gray shoes.
Settler[]
One of a number of unnamed incarnations seen only in "The Lost Fable'. He had short, dark brown hair, a deeper skintone, wore glasses, and a wider jaw than other incarnations. Shown to have "made peace" with Ozma's spirit and even formed a family. He is also the one who built The Long Memory, afterwards hiding it away in a safe for the next incarnation.
Inquisitor[]
One of a number of unnamed incarnations seen only in "The Lost Fable". He also had short dark hair, he was pale, and he kept a trimmed, styled beard. Shown to have acquired the Relic of Knowledge and asked three questions to it, one of which on how to destroy Salem. He became distraught after learning he could not.
Wizard[]
The Wizard was a central figure in the Fairy Tale "The Story of the Seasons", as the one who gifted magic to the Maidens. He was a frail elderly man who wore a long, bushy beard alongside scruffy white hair covered by a wide brimmed hat.
King of Vale[]
As the King of Vale, Ozma was a tall, muscular man with long hair who wore a crown and bore a long cape along his shoulders. Additionally, he carried The Long Memory during his reign.
Ozpin[]
As his most recent incarnation before Oscar, Ozpin was a very tall, middle-aged gentleman with tousled gray hair, brown eyes, and bore black sunglasses. He commonly wore a black suit and a green buttoned swear and a matching cowl pinned in place.
Oscar Pine[]
The current incarnation of Ozma. Formerly a farmhand from Mistral, Oscar eventually joined Ruby's Group on their quest to protect the world from Salem. He wears an olive coat with shoulder pads and a belt both of dark red, as well as black trousers and red boots colored orange at the toe.

Personality[]
Before he met Salem, Ozma was described as a pure and noble soul, a righteous warrior who did things for the greater good. He was always ready to lay down his life in pursuit of this ideal. He saved Salem not because he desired her hand in marriage like the others, but because he simply believed that she deserved her freedom.
Ozma eventually fell in love with Salem, with her feeling the same, so much so that he only agreed to return to Remnant for her. However, his love for her led to him agreeing with her plans to insert themselves as the world's new gods. He was happy with her when they started a family, but after learning of her plans to replace Humnaity, he turned against her, trying to sneak their children away from her, though he ultimately failed and was killed.
Throughout his many deaths and lives, Ozma became depressed, suicidal and a broken shell of his former self, wanting to forget his past altogether and hide away from the world. During this time, Ozma's catchphrase became "I am just a man, and not even a very good one," downplaying his own heroic nature. He was also a martyr, as he believed his life was worth less than others and allowed himself to die if it meant saving them. However he still possessed his sense of duty and justice, and eventually decided not to give up.
Powers and Abilities[]
In his original life, Ozma was a renowned warrior considered to be of legendary prowess. He was able to best large creatures and challenges where many other warriors could not. Over time with his incarnations, Ozma's combat skills became sharper.
Weapon[]

His initial weapon of choice was his Scepter, which he used as a conduit for his magic. Ozma's more recent incarnations use The Long Memory.
Reincarnation[]
Due to accepting the task of uniting Humanity, Ozma has been endowed with the ability to reincarnate, which causes his soul to transfer to a new like-minded host when his previous body is destroyed. The merging process eventually results in the host gaining all of his memories and abilities.
Currently, Ozma's soul is attached to and merging with that of Oscar's. Oscar can grant Ozma control of his body, enhancing his combat prowess and the strength of his Aura. In addition, he can forcibly take control of his body, which Oscar didn't know he could do, though this severely drains him afterwards.[3]
Magic[]

As one of the original Humans during the time of the Gods, Ozma could perform powerful feats of magic, such as large energy blasts channeled through his scepter, reflecting magical attacks, which he did when rescuing Salem from her tower, as well as flight. He was also capable of creating pocket dimensions, as was the case with the Vaults that house the Relics, though the exact method of their creation is unknown. At the time of Humanity's second emergence, his powers were so great that people worshipped him alongside Salem as gods.
Over the course of his many incarnations, he gave away parts of his magic, such as the case with the Maidens as well as the Branwen twins. Because of this, as well as the constant reincarnations, it is a fraction of what it once was.[4]
The use of magic actively increases the merging process with his incarnations.

- Ozma alludes to Princess Ozma from the Land of Oz series, beginning with the second book, The Marvelous Land of Oz.
- Similar to the allusions of Team JNPR, Princess Ozma was originally disguised as the opposite gender.
Name[]
- The name "Ozma" comes from the Hebrew word "Otzma", meaning strength.
- In a tweet, Eddy Rivas jokingly refers to the Pretend God incarnation as "Ozgiliath Brandybuck".[5]
