Background[]
Creation[]
In the early days of the Ever After, the Curious Cat was created by The Gods to replace them in their role of maintaining the realm, and help the Afterans who had become “broken” and needed assistance and renewal. The Cat was created to be constantly looking for information as it explored the Ever After, a desire built into them likely to better fulfill their role to find any “broken pieces”.
After the success with the Cat, the Gods created another creation to “finish” what the Cat started. This new creation was brutal, but highly efficient in its given role. Despite this, one brother believed that it had broken the balance and wished to destroy it, while the other did not want to condemn their creation for their mistakes, eventually sparking a feud.
When the Gods left the realm to create other worlds, the Cat was left behind. This caused an obsession to form, and for eons, they wished to find the Brothers and get answers on why they were abandoned.
The Girl who Fell Through the World[]
According to the story of The Girl Who Fell Through the World, the Curious Cat previously encountered Alyx during her time in the Ever After, and helped guide her to the Great Tree.
In reality, the Curious Cat led both Alyx and her brother Lewis through the Ever After, along with the Rusted Knight. During this Journey, the Cat was noted to have accompanied Alyx and her friends to multiple places in the Ever After and met with several of the Afterans that were not included in the original story, most notably being that the Cat was present when Alyx and Lewis had met with the Herbalist, with both them and Lewis being noted to be uncomfortable with the Herbalist while Alyx joyfully interacted with them.
This however was a major turning point for Alyx, who after talking with the Herbalist, something changed in her. With her becoming notably paranoid of Jaune, themselves and even Lewis and begun making wild accusations against them.
At some point in their journey, Alyx promised the Curious Cat that she'd take them with her to Remnant. Causing the Cat to continue helping her and her brother, even after Alyx had poisoned Jaune and abandoned him in her paranoia.
However, when Alyx, Lewis and the Cat finally arrived at the Tree, Alyx began to have a crisis of conscience. While Lewis went back to Remnant, Alyx decided to stay in the Ever After to atone for everything she'd done, breaking her promise to the Cat.
Enraged by this perceived betrayal, the Cat attacked and killed Alyx.
RWBY[]
Crashing the Red Prince's Party[]
After Team RWBY had successfully beaten the Red Prince at his own game, the young royal became enraged, toppling the board and ordering his toy soldiers to behead the huntresses. Before his order can be carried out, the Curious Cat suddenly and literally appears out of nowhere. They talk to the young prince in a soothing voice, sympathizing with him over Team RWBY beating him on his birthday, but also telling him that if he were to behead them, they won't be fixable afterwards. They give him a piece of their heart to calm him down. As the Red Prince bursts into tears and the toy soldiers rush to comfort him, the Curious Cat makes their way over to Ruby and tells her to flee while the prince is distracted. When Ruby refuses, saying that the prince promised to turn Weiss, Blake and Yang back to their normal size, the cat merely tells her that the prince will most likely not keep his promise and that Ruby should hurry, before the prince changes his mind. They guide Ruby through the confusing red palace and outside.
Once the group is safe, the Curious Cat begins to ask RWBY dozens of questions, before becoming distracted by and chasing after a butterfly in the grass. Their behavior clues Blake in on their identity as the being who helped Alyx find the tree and return home to her world in the original story.

Journey to the Gardens Acre[]
After Ruby catches up with the Curious Cat, she asks them to lead her and her team to the tree as they once did Alyx. The Curious Cat confirms that they've been to the tree once, but they have no desire to return there because they've already seen it. In an attempt to lure the Curious Cat where they need to go, Team RWBY offer to tell them all about Remnant. However, they soon find themselves exasperated by the Curious Cat's constant questions about everything and their seeming inability to keep their focus.
The group eventually arrives at the Garden's Acre, a beautiful forest region. When Yang comments on the odd and seemingly random layout of the Ever After, the cat replies that every acre in their world is made specifically for its inhabitants and their roles and asks if Remnant isn't the same. When Yang replies that it's not, the cat expresses surprise at this. They also wonder why it had never occurred to them to question how things work in other worlds before. An irritated Weiss then asks how much longer her, Blake and Yang will have to remain shrunken down, the Curious Cat reassures her, informing the group that the Gardens Acre has all the ingredients they'll need to make a Growgurt Parfait.
As they enter the acre, the Curious Cat advises the group to stay close to them, lest they get into trouble. However, they end up separated from RWBY when they innocently ask how the huntresses are planning to stop Salem, causing Ruby to stop in her tracks and lose sight of them.
The Curious Cat appears again, interrupting Ruby's vision of her younger self before she can answer its question of what she is going to be. Much like they did with the Red Prince, the Curious Cat sympathizes with the Herbalist, telling him that he has lost his way. They give him a piece of their heart to calm him down and watch as the caterpillar apologizes before the ground swallows him up.

Scuffle at the Marketplace[]
The Curious Cat leads Team RWBY to the marketplace, explaining the concept of Ascension in the Ever After to them and confirming that the Red Prince was previously the Red King, who became so distraught about losing to Alyx that he was ascended into the Red Prince, who would do anything to never lose again. A short while later, the Cat lists all the ingredients the group will need to make a Growgurt Parfait. When Ruby complains that she will never be able to remember all of them, the Cat suggests splitting the group, with them getting the bulk of the ingredients while Ruby and her friends get just the Leprechaun nose hair. As they walk away, they get distracted by one of the merchants, prompting Weiss, Blake and Yang to decide to go with the Cat and keep them on track.
When he group reconvenes, the Curious Cat is puzzled by Ruby seemingly talking to thin air. As Ruby hasn't gotten the nose hair yet, the group finds and approaches the merchant who sells it, the Teapot Lady, together. The Curious Cat makes a mess out of the Teapot Lady's stall while looking for the Leprechaun Nose hair, irritating the merchant. Just as the cat finds the nose hair, fireworks start to go off, signaling the arrival of the Jabberwalker. The Teapot Lady panics and attempts to flee, sucking in her wares. The Cat barely manages to hold onto the nose hair. After Ruby successfully trades her emblem for the ingredient, the Cat explains to Team RWBY that the Jabberwalker is feared because being eaten by it prevents an Afteran from ascending. They then guide Ruby through making the parfait.
When the enlarged Jabberwalker attacks Team RWBY, the Cat uses their heart-sharing ability to give the Hawker a new purpose: Fight the Jabberwalker. They advise Ruby to get the parfait, as long as the Hawker is keeping the Jabberwalker busy. After Yang, Weiss and Blake regain their true size and go to engage the Jabberwalker, the Cat leads Ruby out of danger.
The Cat watches in horror together with Ruby, as multiple Jabberwalkers, created by Neo, invade the market. They tell Team RWBY to get to safety, while they and the Hawker hold off the Jabberwalker army.

Revelations in a Punderstorm[]
The Cat would eventually reunite with Team RWBY, only to realize the group had found and teamed up with the Rusted Knight, a.k.a Jaune Arc. The two of them get into an argument, as Jaune accuses the Cat of trying to lead Team RWBY to their deaths by taking them to the Tree, revealing that the Tree causes Ascension. The Cat claims that since Team RWBY and Jaune are from Remnant and not the Ever After, the Tree will only send them home, to which Jaune asks what it did to Lewis then. The Cat concludes that they've arrived at a corssroads, causing a Punderstorm to form and trap everyone present inside.
When the Cat comes upon Ruby, Weiss and Jaune again, Ruby accuses them of lying to them, citing them keeping their role as the one who takes Afterans to the tree to ascend secret as proof, as well as them pretending they'd never heard of Alyx' story when Jaune had already told them. The Cat implies that Jaune might not be all there anymore mentally, then claims they don't remember what happened when they took Alyx to the tree, mentioning that Alyx promised to take them to Remnant. They then muse that them using others for information and entertainment isn't that different from how Alyx and Team RWBY used them to get home, then bid Ruby farewell and disappear as the Punderstorm dissolves.

True Colors[]
The Cat reappears much later, when Neo had beaten Ruby down in an effort to break her and make her choose to ascend. The Cat attacks Neo and throws her outside the illusion mansion, then approaches Ruby, seemingly to comfort her. When Ruby admits she doesn't want to be herself anymore, the Cat tells her it's alright and that they can be her instead, sinking their claws into Ruby and causing her to scream in pain. They then attempt to take over Ruby's body, revealing that they were planning to emotionally break her all along so she could be used as a host by them and take them through the Tree to Remnant and find out why their makers left them. Their possession is interrupted first by Little who tries and fails to stop them, then by a returning Neo who uses her Semblance to trick and knock the Cat aside.
After Ruby drinks tea made from the Tree's leaves and is subsequently taken to ascend, the Cat panics and unsuccessfully tries to follow. They then realize that Neo has suffered a mental breakdown, due to the presumed death of Ruby having robbed her of her only remaining reason to go on. Using Neo's emptiness, the Cat mocks her, saying that she has nothing left and will make a perfect vessel for them. The Cat then takes over her body, then flees out of the mansion toward the tree, while a horrified Weiss, Blake, Yang and Jaune watch.

Escape from the Ever After[]
After quickly escaping the scene and making their way to the Great Tree, the Cat would soon realize the mistake they had made. Despite now having a host, they were still unable to crossover, eventually realizing that Neo was the problem, as she no longer had any attachments to Remnant.
After Jaune, Blake, Weiss and Yang’s arrival in the Tree and seeing their futile attempt to force their way through the Door, NeoCat would notice their presence. After explaining why they still couldn’t pass through the door, the Cat would soon angrily confess what had really happened during their journey with Alyx and Lewis to the Tree and what had really happened, with the latter angrily revealing that they had murdered Alyx in a enraged fit after the latter backed away last minute in their agreement of her taking them to Remnant due to wanting to instead continue remaining in the Ever After to fix all the problems she caused.
After revealing the truth, NeoCat would then conjure claws to engage Jaune and Team RWBY in battle to vent its frustration and rage for its plan seemingly fail. However, the Cat would then notice Ruby was going through Ascension in the Tree. Overjoyed that they could still salvage their plan, the Cat excitingly decided to target Ruby to become their host once again and abandon Neo as its host body in order to finally travel to Remnant due to Ruby having a much stronger attachment to their homeworld than her.
Refusing to allow the Cat to get its way, Yang, Blake, Jaune and Weiss stood in their path to Ruby, causing the Cat to decide to kill them all before taking Ruby’s body.
Fighting the four, The Curious Cat would make extensive use of Neo’s Semblance to fight all four of them at once, conjuring multiple clones of itself to engage each of them individualy in order to initially stop them from working together and bypass them to get to Ruby’s wooden chrysalis.
During this fight, the Cat would taunt Yang by reasoning that whatever comes out of Ruby’s chrysalis might not even be Ruby anymore by conjuring multiple distorted and mishapen clones of her, disturbing and enraging Yang as she destroyed each one.
The Cat would end dueling against Jaune, where the latter angrily lashed out at them for having lied to him for years on what had happened to Alyx and Lewis and was enraged to learn the Cat had actually murdered Alyx. Remorseless for their actions, the Cat responded that Jaune was also a fraud and a liar and that he was never a “brave knight” either and everything about him was nothing more than “Fairy tale nonsense”.
Successfully throwing NeoCat off their feet, Jaune prepared to kill them with his sword, only for the Cat to throw him off his focus by transforming into Penny and greatly disturbing and throwing Jaune off focuse before then ambushing him with a clone construct of Pyrrha Nikos from behind. Throwing Jaune off his feet, Weiss attempted to help him by hurling a fireball at NeoCat, only for them to avoid it and make her hit Jaune instead.
After experiencing a vision of Alyx, Jaune had his friends burn the tree's leaves, much to the NeoCat's amusement as the smoke couldn't affect them. However, as Jaune predicted, it reawakened Neo’s consciousness, with the rush of memories and emotions overwhelming the Cat and causing it to fell into panic as it tried to run away and block out Neo’s regrets and pain, causing them to willingly exorcise themselves from Neo’s body.
Despite this setback, the Cat soon got back into its feet and proceeded to transform into a larger, more battle oriented form and continue fighting the four. The Cat proved to be more than a match for Ruby's friends until Ruby herself emerged from the tree, unchanged after deciding that she herself was enough. Coming together, Team RWBY defeated the Curious Cat, striking them down with a combined attack.

Death[]
The Curious Cat's defeat reverted them back to their smaller form, trying to spitefully hurt Ruby by saying she was broken, confused and incomplete like all Humans despite their defeat. Unbothered by the Cat’s words, Ruby announced that they were going back to Remnant without the Cat. Unwilling to give up, the weakened Curious Cat attempted to resume their attack, only to be set upon and devoured by Neo's Jabberwalker clones, killing the Cat.
After Ruby and her friends passed through the portal, they arrived in the Blacksmith's workshop where she revealed both the history of the Ever After and The Gods, as well as the Curious Cat's role in it as the Gods' replacement. The Blacksmith also confirmed the Cat's story about Alyx and revealed that it was the broken heart from Alyx breaking her promise to the Cat that had led to their actions. Left with a broken heart and no one to guide them to the tree for repairment as that was the Cat's own job, they were left to stew in their anger and resentment which drove the Cat insane.
