Beatrix Browning, or Lady Beat, is a character from RWBY: Roman Holiday. She was the Headmistress of her own school for socialites, Lady Browning's Preparatory Academy For Girls in the city of Vale, and secretly an agent of Spider.
Following the gang war between Spider and the Xiong Family, she managed to survive, but lost her career after being exposed by Neopolitan and Roman Torchwick.[2]
Appearance[]
As per Neopolitan's assessment, Browning was extraordinarily tall, easily being six feet tall. She was a thin woman with fair skin and grey-blonde hair swept up in a beehive. She wore gold powder on her skin, dark eyeliner on her lavender eyes, and red lipstick. Neo described Beat as "smart, sexy, and a little dangerous," comparing her to a runway model.
Beatrix wore a dark blue jacket, white blouse, gold scarf, and matching knee-length dress with black tights and high-heeled boots, much like her students. She wore a silver pin over her heart, adorned with her triskelion emblem.
Personality[]
Beatrix's mantra of being seen and not heard extents to a large sum of her personality. She is extremely elusive, largely acting on the notion of not revealing her true self. As per her nature, she'd often make it so that students of her Academy could not break the rules, instead secretly hoping they would learn to bend them. This insight stems from her experiences that women are expected to follow rules, but are only punished when they break them, and she instead learned to get ahead in life by only appearing to follow the rules. Furthermore, she believed Semblances are a reflection of the self, and as such chose to either not discover or hide her own, to follow her worldview. Browning would learn to balance her own personality as to now give away any of it, in truth.
Lady Beat was also a member of Spider, and as such owed her loyalty to Lil' Miss Malachite. She had no problems with killing her former pupils for her leader, holding no ill intent towards Lil' Miss. When first meeting her Trivia/Neoplitan thought of her as charming.
Powers and Abilities[]
Beatrix was a teacher in her own Academy, only ever stopping her lessons to go to the Room or to sleep. She trained the group about spying and assassinations, well enough that the Malachite Twins would be able to stand up to Roman Torchwick in a fight and win with ease.
Amongst their skills, they are knowledgeable in fencing, infiltration, social engineering, and self-defense. She was also natural at manipulation and deception, with a particular focus on high-life living and social etiquette.
History[]
At some point, Beatrix Browning took the mantle of Lady Beat, forming her assassin's school, Lady Browning's Preparatory Academy For Girls, and aligning herself with Spider. During that time, she would train Carmel Vanille and Manda Rin, the former would marry to Jimmy Vanille of the Vale Council, and the latter would become a Huntress, then return to the Academy.
She and Spider would arrange a plan to use Triskelion pins from graduates of her academy to acquire mass information for an underworld takeover in Vale, dethroning the Xiong Family.
When Trivia Vanille was eighteen, after unintentionally burning down part of her home, she is taken to Browning's school, where she meets Beatrix. The woman's height and posture at first seem imposing to the diminutive Trivia, but Lady Beat's demeanor quickly disarmed her. She learns Carmel had attended this school in her own childhood, and had continued to donate to it since, at which point Trivia remembers the Triscellion pin that her mother wore on special occasions matched those that the students and Lady Beat sport on their lapels. After her mother gives her a warm farewell, which Trivia does not reciprocate, she is welcomed to her new 'home'.
When Roman Torchwick escaped Spider and started carving his criminal career in Vale, Beat took it upon herself to aid Spider in assassinating Roman. She'd sent Miltia Malachite and Melanie Malachite to complete this mission, but they'd fail due to Trivia's influence.
Following the gang war between Spider and the Xiong Family, Beat managed to survive. However, her reputation was ruined after Roman and Trivia exposed the truth about her academy to the public with the help of Lisa Lavender.
