Have you ever thought about extending your Aura?
—Vine Zeki

Overview Image Gallery

Aura Vines,[1][2] was the Semblance of Vine Zeki. It was first shown in "Ace Operatives".

It allowed him to create Aura vines as extendable limbs.

Description[]

Vine's Semblance allowed him to generate Aura vines from his arms and legs, essentially extending the length of his limbs. He was seen using his Semblance to propel himself and grapple at other enemies, as well as using the extended limbs to punch at them from a distance.

Later during his battle against Blake and Yang, Vine displayed the ability to freely alter the shape of his Aura Vines into claws, allowing him to grapple and capture a fully grown woman with ease using his new Aura Claws and he also displayed enhanced strength, as seen when he was able to easily throw large boulders at Yang and Blake without difficulty. By channeling his Semblance and Aura to his feet, he could propel himself off the ground.

In "The Final Word", Vine extended his vines to cover an entire Atlesian airship in order to contain the bomb James Ironwood had made in order to destroy Monstra and later tries to use on Mantle. The vines were durable enough to contain the explosion, but Vine was killed by the bomb.

History[]

Vine's Semblance debuted in "Ace Operatives", where he used it to stop himself from sliding down the ice tunnel upon the arrival of Centinels, and later used it extensively in the Ace-Ops' battle with the Geist.

During the training montage in "Sparks", Vine suggested to Jaune Arc extending his Aura much like Vine himself could extend his vines over long distances.

In "Out in the Open", Vine used his Semblance to contain an extensive number of Sabyrs during the Battle of Mantle while Jaune Arc and Lie Ren used their own Semblances to mask the civilians long enough to get to shelter.

Vine's Semblance was quite prominent in "With Friends Like These", where he worked together with Elm Ederne to battle fugitives Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long in the effort to capture and arrest them, almost succeeding several times. Vine successfully managed to contain Blake several times, even severely damaging her Aura before the two girls were able to come up with a counterstrategy. His Semblance later became his downfall as he captured one of Blake's clones laden with Yang's sticky bombs, which forced him out into the open and led to his defeat. This fight was also where his ability to extend his legs was first showcased.

Vine used his Semblance throughout the episode "Strings" in the Ace-Ops' battle with the new Winter Maiden, Penny Polendina, being able to stabilize himself in a Maiden power generated wind tunnel before escaping from it, attacking Penny, and later saving Marrow Amin when he was knocked off the bridge. His Semblance was also used to capture Penny after she gets trapped in Marrow's Freeze, and later used it to knock Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, and Blake Belladonna off the damaged bridge when they try to come to Penny's aid. As the Ace-Ops retreat, Vine used it to safely step down to safety far below and help his comrade Elm safely get down herself.

In "Witch", Vine used his Semblance to leap over trenches and successfully combat the Grimm during the Battle of Atlas.

Vine attempted to use his Semblance in "Creation", but was interrupted by Marrow's Freeze. While he deactivates it in defeat in "Worthy", when Hare escapes from Qrow and Robyn's custody after Marrow is knocked out, Vine uses his vines to cling onto the airship and try to talk Hare out of dropping the bomb on the still evacuating citizens. When this ultimately didn't get through to her, he was again forced to cling to the outside of the ship after she kicks him out of it.

In "The Final Word", Vine used his Semblance in combination with Elm's to hold the two airships together, and when it became clear that the bomb's countdown could not be stopped, he decided the only way to save his friends was to contain the explosion himself. Stepping aboard the bomb-carrying ship, he hands off Hare to Elm before encasing the ship in his vines. While he was able to successfully contain the explosion, he was killed in the process.

Trivia[]

  • His vines are a part of his allusion to the Vine from The Elm and The Vine as well as his name.
  • His ability of creating Aura constructs is similar to Elm Ederne, whom he shares his allusion with.
  • Vine's Aura was light blue while his Aura vines were light yellow in color showing that the colors of someone's Aura and Semblance can differ from each other.
