Alyx is the protagonist of the fairy tale The Girl Who Fell Through The World, who fell from the sky into the Ever After a long time ago. She was from Vacuo before the Great War had ever began.
Despite having thought to have escaped the Ever After through the Great Tree, it was revealed in "A Tale Involving a Tree" that her brother Lewis was the one who returned to Remnant, while Alyx stayed behind to fix what she broke in the realm. However, she was killed by the Curious Cat in a fit of rage over her breaking her end of their deal.
Lewis would later write a tale of their adventure in honor of her while omiting his own involvement from it, making him the author of The Girl Who Fell Through The World.
Appearance[]
Alyx was a young girl with dark brown skin, long dark brown wavy hair and hazel eyes. She wore a baby blue collar shirt with short puffy sleeves, and a navy blue dress that fades lighter towards the skirt with golden trimmed design and off-white tulle underneath, and black leather boots. In addition, she wore a dark blue headband with two knots resembling rabbit ears, a colorful waist sash that consisted of navy, red, cyan, gold, and magenta strings with a golden rabbit pin, and bandages wrapped around her right leg.
Personality[]
Alyx, in the fairytale The Girl Who Fell Through the World, was described as a petulant, cunning, intelligent, innocent and adventurous girl who strived to return home after arriving in the Ever After. In order to navigate through the foreign world she managed to manipulate, lie and cheat the natives of the world into helping her in her quest, with the story ultimately painting her as both a desperate little girl who had done everything to survive in a foreign world and as someone "mean" due to her methods. Alyx was also described to have had difficulty in understanding the customs of the Ever After and unknowingly ignited a war by accident due to her ignorance.
As depicted in the story, she was described by Yang Xiao Long to not be the nicest person, due to her actions of lying and cheating her way through all of the challenges in the Ever After. According to Ozpin, she entered the Ever After after fleeing from the consequences of a choice, and rather than learning from her mistake, she ends up spreading her failure. Weiss Schnee argues that instead, she was merely trying to survive in the perilous land and her actions are due to the simple morals of old fairy tales.
In reality, as revealed by Jaune in "Confessions Within Cumulonimbus Clouds", Alyx was, selfish and even outright cruel, believing that the Ever After was imaginary and the rules didn’t apply to her. After meeting the Herbalist, something changed in her, as she turned on Jaune, the Curious Cat and even her brother Lewis and questioned them on everything. She become completely fixated in returning home to Remnant, going as far as tricking and poisoning Jaune, as she believed that he was against her.
The Curious Cat claimed that Alyx lied and manipulated them with false promises to continue helping her and Lewis. Her selfish personality was intense enough that Jaune suspected she would get rid of her own brother by sacrificing him to the Tree just to escape, though this was proven false. In reality, once Alyx arrived at the Great Tree, she had a crisis of faith that led to a change of heart, and she decided to remain in the Ever After to fix all the problems she caused, so Lewis ended up being the one to leave. However, the Curious Cat saw her choice as betrayal which led to them killing her, debunking the Cat's earlier claim as nothing more than their own fury towards her.
It was revealed in "A Knight's Journal" that before her strained relationship with the others, Alyx had enjoyed the Ever After. Jaune noted that she had fun hearing all of his stories alongside her brother, showing delight as she explored the land with them and smiling at all the wonders.
Powers and Abilities[]
What is known of Alyx's fighting ability is limited. While her story describes her as someone who managed to escape the Hunter Mice's trap and fought off the Jabberwalker, it is uncertain how she did it.
Her most notable trait was her cunning personality. As depicted in her fairy tale story, Alyx had manipulated, lied and cheated her way through her journey in the Ever After and it was implied that her intelligence and cunning was the main reason why she managed to survive through the ordeals she faced. Some of her successful schemes was her tricking the Red King in his game in order to get his help in her quest to get to the Great Tree. She also secretly poisoned Jaune's meal without him suspecting anything and convinced Lewis and the Cat to continue helping her to escape the Ever After despite her actions.
Weapons[]
Alyx had an ordinary dagger to defend herself with in her journey in the Ever After. However, while it was stated that she used it to defend herself from the Jabberwalker, she was was unable to fight back against the Curious Cat when they turned on her, ending her life.
Trivia[]
- Alyx alludes to Alice, the main protagonist of Lewis Carrol's novel "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" as well as its sequel "Through The Looking Glass, and what Alice Found There".
- Alyx also used a knife for combat against a Jabberwalker, which may allude to Alice using one in the video game "American McGee's Alice."
- Unlike most characters from Remnant, Alyx's name is not derived from a color. This implies that she may have been born before the Great War, where the usage of color-based names was born.
- This was confirmed in "A Knight's Journal", where it was revealed that both she and Lewis were from Vacuo before the Great War or Huntsmen even existed.
- Alyx's 3D character model was created specifically for the scene of her illusion talking to Jaune in "Of Solitude and Self".[2]
- Her voice actor, Shara Kirby, also voices "Serial Designation J" from the Australian web series created by Liam Vickers and Glitch Productions, Murder Drones.
