"The Stray"（はぐれもの）はRWBYの1期15話目のエピソード。一般には2013年10月31日に公開された（現地時刻）。
あらすじ[]
チームRWBYはワイス・シュニーに率いられ、ヴァイタル・フェスティバルの準備中の街に繰り出す。ワイスはヴァキュオから来る生徒たちを出迎えるために港へ来たと説明するが、ブレイク・ベラドンナは、ワイスがトーナメントで有利になるために偵察に来たのではないかと疑っていた。港へ向かう途中、ルビー・ローズはダストショップが封鎖されているのを見かけ、そこにいた警官に事情を聞く。警官はダスト強盗があったと答え、それがホワイト・ファングの仕業ではないかと話す。それを聞いたワイスは、ホワイト・ファングがいかに凶悪な犯罪者集団であるかを述べるが、それに対してブレイクは、彼らは道を誤っただけのファウナスであると反論する。また、彼らにはダストショップを襲う動機が無いため犯人は別ではないかと述べ、ルビーもそれに同意する。
そのとき、港の方で騒ぎが起き、ルビーたちがそちらへ向かうと、猿の尻尾を持った若いファウナスが船員に追われていた。彼は密航したようで、警官も彼を捕まえようとするが、身軽な動きでそれをかわす。彼はチームRWBYとすれ違うところでブレイクにウインクし、そのまま街の中へ消えていった。チームRWBYも彼を追うが、途中でワイスが少女とぶつかって倒れたことで見失ってしまう。少女は自身をペニーと名乗り、ぶつかったことは気にも留めない様子で丁寧に挨拶をする。ルビーたちは彼女の様子のおかしさを感じつつも、自己紹介を返してその場を離れる。しかし、別れ際にルビーが言った一言がきっかけで、ペニーはルビーと友達になったと勘違いし、ルビーもこれを認める。トーナメントに参加しに来たというペニーに対し、ワイスは先ほどの密航していたファウナスを知っているかと質問するが、その際の彼を侮辱する言い方をブレイクが問題視し、二人は口論となる。
寮に戻り、夜になっても二人の口論は続き、ホワイト・ファングを純粋な悪と呼ぶワイスに対してブレイクは彼らにも事情があると返す。議論がエスカレートする中で、ワイスはホワイト・ファングを憎む理由として、シュニー家が長年彼らに悩まされてきたことを明かす。これに対して感情が昂ったブレイクは、自分たちホワイト・ファングは虐げられてきたと返し、自身の過去を明かしてしまう。逃げるようにして部屋を飛び出し、中庭にやってきたブレイクは、そこでリボンで隠していた猫耳を露わにする。そこで彼女に声をかけたのは、昼間に会ったファウナスのサン・ウーコンであった。
数日経過してもブレイクは寮に戻ってこず、ルビー達3人は彼女を探しに街へと出かけるが、ワイスは乗り気ではない様子であった。その頃、サンと共にカフェに来ていたブレイクは、自身の生い立ちを彼に話し始める。

- ブレイクがファウナスであることにサンがすぐ気付いたのは、サンの元ネタである孫悟空の能力の1つである「火眼金睛」にかけた演出だと考えられる。これは相手の変装や幻覚を見破る能力である。
- 本エピソードに登場した二人の警官はBurnie BurnsとJoel Heymanが声を当てている。彼らはRooster TeethのStronger Tides、Prank King、The Reunionでも警官の声を担当している。
- ブレイクがチームの元を離れたあと、Wingsを僅かに編曲したバージョンが流れる。
- DVD/BDコメンタリーによると、ブレイクが逃げたあと彫像を見ていたシーンは、彼女が自分達ファウナスは人間側なのか、それとも獣（グリム）側なのかと考えているという意味が込められているとのこと[1]。
